    Yesterday's Condo

Good Morning everyone and Happy Friday!

After hearing from the vet yesterday that Luci has hyperthyroidism I'm somewhat relieved to understand why she's been losing weight although eating quite well - for the most part - she's had a bit of an upset tummy lately and he said the hyper_T can cause that - and the weight loss - although she still has the diarrhea and has basically refused to eat this morning - again - I've been using the ForteFlora instead of the Tylan, but today I mixed the Tylan into her food - she didn't even bother coming in for a sniff - she'll be back later to check it out. Luci tends to be a grazer so we'll see what she thinks in a bit.

I'm waiting to hear from the compounding pharmacy for her medication - so we'll see how it goes after we pick that up - hopefully later today.

Have a good day everyone and I hope your kitties surf safely.

It's good that you have a diagnosis so you know what you're working with. I hope the medication gets her hyper-t under control. Do you know if that could have any impact on her BG numbers, or are the two entirely unrelated?

    Have a good day, Sue.

Yes, the hyper-t causes her metabolism to utilize her insulin faster and can cause her numbers to go up - since she may need more insulin to do what the previous amount used to do - it is most definitely related.

However, for now, I'm going to hold with what we're doing - since hopefully I'll be starting her first dose of the thyroid med tonight and I don't want to do multiple things at once. The vet felt that once the thyroid starts to behave properly a lot of things are going to fall into place - the tummy issues and her BG's - let's hope it all starts to come together soon...fingers and paws crossed :)

Hi Sue—glad that you got a diagnosis for Luci and that you can treat her. I’m sure that she’ll be back to her usual self in no time. Sending good thoughts to both of you!

I wonder if that is the reason for the yellow bookends?

I'm not sure...it seems to have really shown up more recently...but there is a relationship between FD and hyperthyroidism...in the last few months Luci hasn't been herself..I thought it was the Tresiba...but now I'm thinking it was most likely the onset of the hyper-t, rather than the Tresiba...just unfortunate timing.

Sure will be interesting to see how Luci's BG numbers change once the hyper-t is under control. My fingers and Butters' paws are crossed for Luci. :bighug:

We've seen a number of kitties have more steady numbers (and sometimes reductions) as their hyperT comes under control. I remember one kitty who went OTJ, and came out of remission when the thyroid meds needed tweaking, then back again as the thyroid was controlled again. I'll be watching and hoping those lemons become less interesting.

Thanks, Wendy...it makes me feel a little better to know there is still hope...although at this point that light is very dim.

So glad you've got a diagnosis and it's something manageable. Best of luck with the treatment.
