    Happy Caturday everyone! :cat:

    Yesterday.

Got a drop of blood on the first try! It’s gonna be a great day, I can already tell. Ruby’s bouncing from yesterday’s surfing in the greens. No careening today, ok, Rubes?

Yay, on the blood drop! I promise every tests gets easier and then you'll still have mistakes here or there (or at least I do :p).

    Have a wonderful day, Katherine!

I saw your post on Jax’s condo about calipers. Take a look at the lines on your syringes and how off some are. It can be a big difference for a small cat but nothing to a human. Once I started using calipers I couldn’t dose without them. I too used a magnifying glass and the light box in Marje’s video. .

I haven’t gotten the light box yet, looking for something small that won’t take up too much room. But I’m nearly there. I see how nice and even Jax’s numbers are and I want to achieve the same.

I didn't get a light box - I also didn't want something taking up space. I use a flashlight app on my iPad (I use "MyLight"). If you have a tablet or smartphone, perhaps you can find something similar. It serves the exact same purpose (and was free!).

So when I'm measuring the dose, I turn off the lights in the room I'm in, wear my crazy glasses (they have a built in light too), and use my ipad.

What a fantastic idea! I have an iPad that would suit this purpose. Do you measure out many syringes at a time and draw lines on the unlined side of the syringe barrel with a sharpie? I can’t see me doing this bleary eyed every morning with a hungry cat head butting me!:eek:

No, I use my calipers...I just line the top metal thing of the caliper up with the top of the syringe (where the plastic stops in the tube part) and then I line the top of my syringe up with the bottom metal thing of the caliper. Sorry for this horribly poor description :p I can try to take a picture later and will post.

I did follow the caliper post for determining my caliper measurements. So I do have four syringes (that had decent lines) that were used to determine my caliper measurements; i keep them in a bag in case I need or want to remeasure my calipers.

That is really smart. I wish I had thought of that.

Katherine - the caliper post has good pictures of how to measure the calipers up against the syringe - here's just one of the pics. So the bottom of the top caliper piece lines up with where the plastic stops in the barrel and then you line the top of your syringe up with the top of the bottom caliper piece. Hope that helps!

That’s a fantastic photo. Thank you! Will experiment with a few syringes this afternoon.

PMPS = 137. Ruby's careening downhill again today. I shot and am freaking out! Will get a +1. Hope that will make me feel better. :nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:

+1 = 124. Not feeling very good about the drop in numbers even though she ate ½ can FF LC about an hour ago. Should I feed MC?

She's stayed pretty flat, no need for MC yet, but I would feed a little LC and test again at +2

Thank you, Christie. :) Never shot so low before and she's been diving all day so I need someone to hold my hand a little.

You'll be fine, I know it can be scary, while she didn't get much of a food bump, the +2 will tell you a little more about what she has planned ;)

+2 = 105. Still heading downhill. She's getting very upset with me poking her, poor girl. She doesn't usually complain but she's meowing at me and I had to chase her all over the bed to get this test.

She is feeling a bit perky, it seems. You'll need to keep testing, she is having an active cycle. I'd still test again at +4 to see where she is at. She is in safe numbers, so MC still isn't warranted, but I'd give some more LC.

I know in theory that the numbers are safe, but she's been heading straight downhill all day and I have never seen her so low at +2 which makes me really nervous! :nailbiting: I mixed a little MC into her LC and she had a little bit. I'll test again at +4.

While it can be alarming to see a drop from AMPS, as long as you can test, you are in control of things. No worries about trying a little MC in the mix. I'll be back for your +4

    +4 = 90.

What is happening when there is no clear nadir for more than 12 hours? Is it because doses are overlapping?

From the tests you got this am cycle, she had a late nadir, technically her nadir was her pm preshot. She is doing well, I'd catch a +6 to make sure she's still nice and steady.

Just tried to prick her and she is growling at me in a way I’ve never heard her do before. I think she’s had enough of the pokies today, and even though she’s still going down I am heartened that at least it’s a bit flat and not going precipitously downward. I’ve left some MC wet food in her bowl and will call it a night. Thank you for checking in Christine!
