Is it really necessary to switch to meters when switching from vetsulin to prozinc?

Why would you have to change what meter you use? I don't understand.

This is from the prozinc dosing method forum at the beginning.
"***All reference numbers are based on using a US human meter to monitor your cat’s BG. Using a pet meter is not recommended."

It's not necessary to change meters. If you're comfortable using the pet meter and the price of the strips isn't a problem for you, there's no reason you can't continue to use it.

The reason we suggest using a human meter instead (other than the price difference) is because all our dosing methods were developed using human meters so we're all very comfortable with seeing numbers from a human meter.....but we can help you if you want to continue with the pet meter too.

Pet meters haven't actually been around that long. When this board was started, there was no such thing as a meter for pets.

I've used my alphatrak for years. I used it when she was on vetsulin and now on ProZinc. It's a great meter. You may want to add the meter you are using to your signature so people keep in mind which you have. The reference scale is a bit different compared to a human meter.

Dag I forgot to add that, thanks! The alphatrak is expensive however it keeps me and my vet in sync. I love it!
