Hello! Based on advice I got on here a couple weeks ago, I started aggressively doing the modified ProZinc method and we're finally making progress. Last night, Marley got to his lowest numbers ever. Luckily, I have a wonderful SO that is working afternoons this week and tested when he got home and we caught some really low numbers. Unfortunately, this won't be the case every week that we can test so late. So question: Should I do a dose decrease since it seems he's broken through some insulin resistance? He's insanely active at night so I'm not sure if that's why he has such low numbers at night and high during the day.
Update: This morning is 99 AMPS. I haven't fed and I'm stalling, but what do I do about his dose? I know it's based on nadir, but this is a pretty low number. I'm waiting for his numbers to come up, but I'm doing the modified dosing for ProZinc and I don't know if this is a dose reduction, by how much, or if I keep it at his dosage.
Hello! Just saw your post on FB. My guy was on Prozinc prior to him going into remission. If he doesn’t go up much, I would not shoot. Right now, he’s got a normal number. For Prozinc, you can stall up to an hour.
That was at 40 minutes. I'm going to test again in about 5 minutes. Isn't skipping a shot not recommended? Even a small amount is best?
Skipping is ok if the numbers are low and normal. Remember too, the meter can be off + or - 15%. @JanetNJ Going to tag Janet as well and see if she can chime in as well.
Ok, so with insulin, less than 90 is a reduction of .25U. At 124, I personally would be hesitant to give any. I would feed him, but take this opportunity to see what his numbers are throughout the day. With those numbers, someone like @JanetNJ or @Deb & Wink can guide you better. Good luck! Your kitty is lucky to have you
I wouldn't dose a 103. If you want you could do just a tiny 0.25-0.5 just as a token dose if you are around to make sure she's ok, but otherwise I'd skip. Yes, you need to reduce going forward. he earned a reduction on the 6th. Next shot do 3.75. I know it's hard to get night readings, but do try to get a before bed test every night if you can.
