    Good morning all!

Surprise, surprise...Pearl is in the middle of another bounce. They just keep coming one right after the other. It's like one doesn't clear before the other one starts. The only thing I can see is that when her BG starts getting into relatively OK numbers (and maybe that involves dropping 50ish points in a cycle etc), then she bounces again. So! I have some changes to my strategy.

Yesterday with your input (thank you), I decided I would start adding in a little MC when she dives (she usually dives 1-3 hours after insulin) - even if the dive is only maybe 40 points, it's enough to trigger another bounce in the next cycle. Today I am starting to administer a little MC at PS feedings actually, since she always dives somewhat when she is bouncing, even if her numbers are still high.

I also adjusted her dose this morning from 1.5U to 1.75U. She was due for it, I forgot to ask about adjusting dose mid-bounce and whether that is ok or not! But seeing that everything is a bounce these days for her, I hope I made a good choice.

I will be checking BG at +1, +2, +3, etc.

Good call on the increase. The test that helps decide if she might have an active cycle is the +2 and it seems to be the case with Pearl. If it’s the lower than the preshot adding in the mc is a good idea. If it’s higher I would feed lc. Try it both ways.

Hi! I've been trying to figure out her drops. I think by the time it registers on the BG (whether it's +1, +2, +3), it's already too late. So I think I might try some MC food with the PS LC food in general to see if that can start making a difference. So far, there aren't many times it goes up on the +1 or +2, it always seems to be dropping - even if only a little, it gathers steam SO quickly for her. I think even a 40 point drop is enough to trigger her bounces, at least if I am reading it accurately! Thank you for your advice!!

Its definitely worth a try. It’s all one big experiment since every cat is different. Max got a food bump. He was carb sensitive and his onset wasn’t until +2.5 most of the time so for me a +1 was useless.

Thanks! She is dropping in the neighborhood of +1 to +3/4, so I will have to figure out how to anticipate this!

I know how frustrating bounces are. Pearl is still very early on in the FD journey and her body has to get used to normal numbers again. At the moment she thinks the higher numbers are normal and when they drop lower, she freaks out and dumps the stored glucose to ‘save herself’
The more often she can experience lower numbers the more she will get used to them.
Pearl looks like she bounces for 2 or 3 cycles before she starts to come down again. So she not going for 6 cycles at least!!
As Elise said it’s trial and error with feeding the curve trying to get Pearl down to better numbers safely without a big drop. I used to test a lot early in the cycle trying to keep ahead of the drop and if I could do that Sheba would have lovely numbers until she decided to freak out again and bounce. Some cats will stop bouncing early on and others bounce all the way to remission.
    Keep up the good work!
And Pearl... you need to read the rule book!

Thank you, Bron! Here are my takeaways from your message that I am implementing: (1) I am testing a lot early in the cycle. Every hour for the first 5-6 hours, maybe even 30 min increments if I sense the drop coming on. (2) Pearl is only bouncing for a few cycles at a time - I hadn't put that together from the data, thank you. (3) Pearl is still early on in FD...maybe I need to cultivate more patience ;)

    Have a lovely day!
