I read somewhere here on the FDMB a few weeks ago that gave me the impression the medical community doesn't think ketones are part of the picture for acrocats but I can't find the thread now. Can anyone help me? I am trying to put together some docs to take to the vet for an appt tomorrow for Kierra. I want to get her tested for acromegaly and IAA. I don't know what I will encounter (skepticism, resistance, or cooperation).

We've had several acrocats with DKA and ketones. The What We Know Sticky Note mentions some names of cats, I know of some more recent. Not sure I've seen reference to the medical community not thinking ketones are relevant. Given that many of the acros spend quite a bit of time in high numbers until they get to a good dose, it's not surprising to see it.

Good luck with the appointment tomorrow. Remember, you are the client. If the vet is reluctant, ask then to humour you. That's what I had to do.

I see notes about runny eyes. Neko had one runny eye, usually worse when her numbers were higher. Anyway, I finally figured out it was likely due to soft tissue growth blocking her tear ducts.

Lots of articles in this post Acromegaly - the basics, I have even more now.

    OK, thanks

I hope they have a sense of humour.:)
Can you do anything about blocked tear ducts?

My cat threw a few ketones when she was under dosed. Luckily it didn't get bad.
