    Hi,

Has anyone seen a dramatic increase in bg caused from progression of chronic kidney disease, with no indication of UTI? I've tried doing some research, but haven't found a clear answer on this. One of my DCIN cases seemed to be controlled, then suddenly went all out of whack about a month ago (was running 150s bgs, now rarely under 500 even with insulin dose increased...). Labs were done, plus urinalysis and culture--chronic kidney disease was the only finding. Abdominal ultrasound was done last week, the only findings were consistent with ckd.

We're starting fluid therapy, but for those of you who have a diabetic cat who developed CKD: did the bg increase wildly at first? If so: What worked to bring it down?

    Thanks!

Mr T threw up multiple times today, which makes me suspect pancreatitis. Blood ketone test reading was LO, which was an ENORMOUS RELIEF. Blood glucose level is mid300s, Mr T's owner is going to keep an eye on it. I'm going to ask the vet tomorrow about treating for possible pancreatitis.

For what I've seen in my experience and some friends experience CKD usually does not cause a sudden increase of blood glucose levels unless your are dealing with kidney crash or failure which is not the case since Mr T's kidney values are really not too bad, but if there's something else in play like an infection, UTI, tumor or another illness like pancreatitis ( Mr T does have high levels of lipase although that is not necessarily mean pancreatitis but it does raise some flags) those could cause the sudden raise of BG

Mr T is starting cerenia and buprenorphine tonight! Paws crossed this is why his bg has been out of control.

I've never had ckd cause the bg to go higher.

Pancratitis would definitly do it. Usually they prescribe sub q's too

Looks like pancreatitis has been the culprit. AMPS 383, no vomiting or diarrhea overnight, and improved appetite this morning!

He's been getting 100mL subq fluids daily since Saturday. Added in Cerenia and buprenorphine last night.

    Hi T,

Glad to hear that Mr. T's digestive system is starting to settle down and that he's eating better today. Fingers and paws crossed the flare subsides quickly.
