Hey everyone, have a quick question. Boos insulin vial fell out of the container today after giving it to him and the top part of the vial broke off and spilled most of his insulin out. I cleared up the mess, there is still some left in the vial. Is this contaminated at this point and no longer good to use, or will it be ok until Monday when I can pick some more up from the vet?

My concern would be tiny shards of glass in the remaining insulin

That’s fair, it looked to be a clean break though. The piece that broke off fit perfectly back onto the bottle. Wish I could send a picture of what it looks like, but I couldn’t find any shards on the floor, or anywhere.

I'm with Chris on this one, Peter. There's a risk there might be tiny glass splinters in the remaining fluid.

Do you still have any of Peeka's Vetsulin in your fridge? (@Chris & China (GA) - How long is Vetsulin good for after the first dose is drawn: six months?)

No more vetsulin unfortunately. I just don’t want him to go a day and a half without insulin. My hand may be forced, and I might have to go ahead and switch him over to Prozinc. Not necessarily the worst thing in the world, I just didn’t want to switch up his routine since he has been doing so well over the last year on his current dosage.

Sorry, our main focus cat, Peeka is on Prozinc. Boo has been regulated for well over a year now and his on Vetsulin. Not the best insulin, I know. But it works for him.
