Has Duke earned another slight reduction?

Any help please regarding Duke's dose.
At the moment Duke is receiving 1.0F and he's dropping to below 5 mmol/L (90 mg/dl) at +4.
When he gets to that level i find that i am having to steer him a little to keep him on track just in case he drops more.
Should i reduce his dose to 1.0u and try that or should i leave it as it is?

You went below 90 so you can lower to 0.75

I will lower his dose in the morning as i have already given him his PM dose.
Through the day i seem to be steering yet at night the 1.0F seems just right with no steering, but as you have said in the past he does seems to run higher at night, so would it be ok to slightly increase the dose for his PM shot or would that upset his pattern.

 

Looking good with the new dose @JanetNJ. No steering at all today. He's dropped to 4.9 mmol/L (88 mg/dl) but i'm not bothered about that, so far superb readings.

Dukes numbers have not come down last night and today compared to yesterdays levels .
Should i increase his dose slightly to a skinny 1 just to bring him down a bit more?

Well @JanetNJ things didn't turn out as planned. Duke's at 10.2 mmol/L (184 mg/dl) at PMPS so i'm stalling for 30 mins and rechecking so an increased dose is out of the question. It seems like he's flat lined today for some reason (if that's the terminology)
Should i still give him the 0.75u or reduce it slightly providing he's above 11.1 mmol/L (200 mg/dl)

I ended up giving Duke a 0.75 Skinny and will constantly monitor him until i know he's ok.

I do a virtual curve every day as i check him at least 7/8 times AM, and at least till PM +5 (1:30 am) but today of all days i didn't check him at AM +9. Typical eh.

 

You're doing brilliantly, Tee. And Duke is doing so well on Prozinc. The colour coding on the SS is great for enabling you to actually 'see' the progress over time, isn't it? That is so lovely to see...

How are Duke's ears holding up with all that testing? (I thought I tested a lot but you make my levels of testing look quite restrained by comparison, hehe! )

Considering that he's only been on Prozinc for 28 days now his low numbers are a testimony to all the help i have received on this forum, i couldn't have done it without everybodies help and the SS is brilliant, i honestly couldn't be without it now.
I have upped his dose very slightly this morning as i think i have sussed out why he had a great day on the 26th. (probably wrong)
For his breakfast he had Sheba fine flakes (105 grams) because he didn't want his normal Wild freedom (105 grams) for some reason.
The Sheba has only 73.7 calories per 100 grams whereas the Wild freedom he had was 95.7 calories per 100 grams, plus the Wild freedom is higher in protein.
Is it possible @Elizabeth and Bertie that the better food can keep his numbers slightly higher?
Regarding the testing i keep meaning to reduce it (honestly) but i see numbers and think oh god what's he going to be in 1 hour and then i test him and think again oh god what's he going to be in 1 hour, i hate the thought of him going into a hypo.

 

It 'may' be that the higher calorie value of the food would keep the blood glucose a little higher (or stop it dropping as much). The Wild Freedom has a lower water content than the Sheba, and so is more calorie dense.
...But...it may also be that the food issue is a 'red herring' , and that the difference in numbers is just normal day to day fluctuation (there are lots of things that can affect how a cat responds to any given insulin dose). ...If the situation repeats though then that could provide more evidence that the different foods have different effects.

 

I might experiment this weekend when Kim's at home. Sheba Saturday AM and Wild Freedom Sunday AM.
