    Hello! Newbie here.

I already bought the AT2 and want to buy a human meter to do testing so it is easier here and more affordable for me.

I was at walmart today, looking at the pdf of meter ratings and I couldn't find the ReliOn Micro, Ultima, Confirm.

Online I can order the Prime, Premier compact, Premier classic, Premier BLU, and Premier Voice.
I can only get the Confirm strips, but I do not see the monitor for it.

I am having some difficulty getting enough blood on the ear, probably due to not getting close enough to the edge and practice. I am using an old lancing device from 15 years ago, FreeStyle Flash from when I had gestational diabetes 15 years ago. I have it set to #2. The AT2 is difficult for me to get the cap on and off and stresses me out. In fact, I still have the Free Style Flash meter, but the strips expired 11 years ago. Maybe I could buy strips for that?

Anyway, I know I am over thinking this. I want the best I can afford. I don't want to feel like I am throwing a dollar in the trash if I am having a hard time learning how to do this.

Thank you for your time and patience. I would really like to purchase one tomorrow.
    Heather

I have a premier but i've read it reads closer to a pet meter regardless of it being a human meter. Im not sure how true that is. When i get paid friday im going to buy the prime and strips so i can compare the two. I see more people using the prime it seems. I also remember seeing in a youtube video i dont think they make the confirm or ultima anymore but i could be wrong

    I use the Relion Prime
I have never used the lancing device
Most of us just use the lancet freehand
You need either 26 or 28 gauge lancets, I feel you can see where you are poking better. They will make bigger holes, just to milk the ear rubbing your finger up toward the poke area.
Warm the ear with either a rice sock, put some rice in a sock, then in the microwave for a few seconds. Keep putting it on the inside of your wrist to make sure it's not to
hot. Put it on George's ear.
You can also fill an empty pill container with warm water.

The more you test the more the capilarries will grow and make it easier to get more blood.
    Prime is 9 dollars
    17.88 for 100 test strips

I see you said that he has neuropathy.
Is he walking like a rabbit?
Meaning he is walking with his back feet flat like a rabbit does

YES! I found a thread and shared it with my son so we can look into ordering the b12 I think it was.
Thank you for the video. I have watched a few and will watch this one as well. All the cats seem cool with it in the videos I've seen, ha ha.
    Thank you for the tips!

    https://www.vitacost.com/vitacost-vitamin-b-12-methylcobalamin-5000-mcg-100-capsules-6
    For neuropathy

Alot of members use this , I use it myself you can buy it on line from Vitacost
    Vitamin B-12 Methylcobalamin -- 5000 mcg - 100 Capsules
It's 17.99 just be sure this is the one you buy
Some us Zobaline , but it's expensive
    This is the same thing
The only difference is the Zobaline has 200 mcgs of folic acid
So I buy the folic acid at the supermarket and crush it up and add it to the B-12
If you can't find the 200 mcg get the 400 mcg and cut it in half
The Vitacost brand is a capsule so just open it and pour the powder on the wet food
Has no taste, no need to crush it up
The Zobaline is 33.99 for 60 pills, too expensive
I saw a big improvement I'd say 3 months, could be sooner. One capsule a day.
Once you get your kitty better regulated the B-12 methyl will help

I’ve recently discovered this technique for getting more blood out. If I prick and only get a tiny dot not big enough, I hold the warm sock to the back of her ear behind the spot and I can see that more blood starts to come out. I hold the sock there until I have a big enough droplet. This has saved me from having to do multiple pricks over a hundred times by now! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I will try that! Thank you! I am already getting tired of poking him all the time and it's only been one week.

Hi Heather with the folic acid you just posted you would have to open up the capsule and only put 200 mcgs in the wet food. I don't know how you could measure that out.
As I posted in #8 I just bought the folic acid in a supermarket, I could only find 400 mcgs ,so I cut it in half and crushed it up so I knew it was only 200 mcgs I was giving.
I think I have seen people say they did see the front legs being affected

I ordered this and it came. Can I be giving him this now, or do I need to wait until he is more regulated?

Yes you can start it now, I did even before I got Tyler regulated.
If you can get more testing in during each 12 hour cycle that would be great
Vary the times so we can get a picture of how the insulin is working for George.
I would say I started seeing an improvement in about 3 months with the neuropathy.

He's 100% better. Jumping onto things, walking totally normal, and running
Best of luck , George is a very handsome boy :bighug::cat:

Hi Heather yes I add 200 mcg 's to the Methyl B-12 every day
Are you going to use the folic acid you posted above , the jarrows one, the capsules?

I see they are 400 mcg , so just try and only separate it in half as good as possible
Like I said I just bought mine at the supermarket , the pills and just used a pill cutter to cut the 400 mcg in half and then crushed it up using the bottom of a cup
Or you can buy a pill crusher

I bought a pill that I cut in half and crushed into a spoon. Thank you. I can't wait to see him walk normal. That would be so exciting
