I can safely say that the Levemir isn't helping with Mo's aggression. He so aggressive at the moment when we try to give medications, injections, tests, etc, it makes it incredibly difficult to do with just one person. He must still be sore :( How do you test an aggressive cat without putting yourself at risk of being attacked?

The vet said that if Mo is on cerenia, he can't be on any other anti-nausea meds. I will talk to Pru about this at his appointment tomorrow. I'm sure she will be good at dealing with his pancreatitis, just not necessarily the diabetes.

Otherwise, Mo has been fine. Just relaxing, taking things slowly, etc. I can't wait until pancreas calms down. I really want him to start feeling good again. Poor boy must have have medications shoved down his throat multiple times a day.

Hope you're all having a great day/night wherever you are :)

Hi, I hope someone has more specific suggestions for you, but I will share it does get easier with time. When I started 6 months ago, Abby would hiss, bite, scratch and hide under the bed. She wasn’t interested in treats or me singing (although many people suggested this) and while the warm sock on the ear helped (still use one), I found that I just had to keep trying with her. At first I needed my sisters help, but once Abby’s numbers started getting better and she felt better she was more tolerant. At the beginning I had to wrap her in a towel like a burrito to avoid serious damage to my hands and I didn’t think we would get through it. Now a days Abby shows her disdain with testing but let’s me do it without much protest - she does look at my hands when I enter the room to see if it’s test time but she doesn’t run. I know that doesn’t help, but I just wanted to share you aren’t alone and as you get more comfortable with the process Mo will hopefully come to the same realization that Abby did. I’m sorry it’s so tough right now.

    Phoenix got
Phoenix got very aggressive when he was in pain, too. I am by myself. Phoenix weighs 34 lbs and to try wrapping a snarling cat in a towel was impossible. I don't know about Mo, but Phoenix would be fine sometimes when I went to give him a pill and then a little while later, he would be nasty. DO NOT GET YOURSELF HURT, BACK OFF !!

I know it isn't much help, but sometimes I just had to back off and go sit down. I would wait 30 minutes and try again. Then, he would let me give his pill with no problem. You might try waiting until he is sleeping and quietly sneaking up on him. Grab the scruff of his neck with one hand and push the pill down his throat with the other. I don't usually grab the scruff of his neck but when he was at his most aggressive, it seemed to limit his movements.

Please give him a treat after a pill to help wash the pill down. Don't worry about having to give Mo pills. I give Phoenix zobaline and another b-12 supplement every day since he was diagnosed. I give him a treat after each pill to wash it down. He looks forward to his treats and comes running at pill time.

Phoenix would also growl when I wasn't even around him. He would also growl and snarl when I was just walking by. He was in pain. Mo will get better and things will get back to normal. I know I haven't been much help. I don't sleep an awful lot and it is after midnight here and after 10 pm in California. I will be up for hours if there is anything I can do. Hopefully, someone on our west coast can be of more help.

I forgot to reply about the cerenia. Switch Mo to the cerenia. It is great !! One dose of it and Phoenix's nausea was gone. I could go days before giving another dose. Cerenia also helps with inflammation and should help his pancreatitis. Read about it online. Get the Cerenia !!

You can give cerenia (once a day) and ondansetron (up to 3 x a day) together as they work on different pathways. Another name for ondansetron is zofran.
The vet needs to write a script for the ondansetron as it is a human drug and you get it from the human pharmacy.

I’m sorry Mo is still so uncomfortable.
Don’t forget we will be with you in spirit tomorrow at Prues appt, so draw on our collective strength,

Yes again the vet shows that knowledge is missing. It's perfectly fine to be on both Cerenia and ondansetron. Neko was. The two drugs target different nausea receptors, sometimes one works better than the other. Sometimes you need both. Ondansetron can also come as an injectible, which makes it easier to give if a cat isn't interested in taking things by mouth.

Wishing you the best with the vet appointment.:bighug:

I am so glad you are still awake. I can only relate to my own experience with Phoenix.

Katy, I'm so sorry. It must all be breaking your heart! Sending big hugs over the ditch!!!

I can't help with the aggression, sorry. Gremlin never cared what I did, even when he was first diagnosed and it took a million times for me to be able to just test him. He was chill, I was usually in tears. Only being here got me through! Grem's actually more of a pain now. Grumpy old fart...
Although, pilling him was a HUGE issue up until a few years ago!!! So bad, so violent, that there were no more pills, only ever injections right up until his hyperthyroidism diagnosis.
One time a vet needed to get stitches in her arm because she tried to put him in a cat carrier... He's not like that anymore, fortunately!

Sending strength for the appointment with Pru. And I hope you can eventually find a vet much more supportive and knowledgeable!! (I told Grem's first vet after his diagnosis to "get f*#ked" because she said if a cat is on any less than 1u of insulin, it doesn't need to be on insulin at all...) Mo is obviously a fighter, he will get better and then it'll be easier. You're a wonderful mama-bean!!

I'm so sorry he's angry, and being aggressive, as I have said to you before George was always a sweetie about testing and shooting, until he was in pain with his teeth, and bad GI upset, I had to burrito him and hold him between my knees, to get a test, it was the only way I could do it on my own (DH was working away, so I had no one to help), George is a strong cat so it was quite an effort.
He would really growl at me and it left me in tears and shaken, I hated to see him hide from me, he's always followed me round and usually is at my side or on a comfy cat bed in the same room as me, I know how you feel. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
I had to push through, we had this for about a month, during this time there were days when he was better, and he tolerated me, as he got better after his extractions, he no stopped hiding and growling at me.
He was very difficult to pill (though he hadn't been before), I found that the best way to deal with that was to put his med in a little bit of cheese, I used dairylea cheese triangles, he loved them and would take them with no effort. I made a tiny little cheese ball for him.
Felix my civie gets his benazapril that way too in the mornings though he is more of a philly cheese sort of a guy:rolleyes: wrapping his meds in something he likes may be an easier way of pilling him.

You guys are all the best, thank you so so much!
I'm so glad Abby let's you test without a problem now :) I do hope Mo gets like that too. He's such a grumpy bum. Thank you for sharing your experience with me :)
Thank you! In terms of pilling him, the burrito trick works for us. It's the insulin I have a problem with. I go near him with the insulin needle and he starts growling and works himself up. It's hard to do with just me :(
Thanks! Mo is currently on Cerenia and he still has nausea :(
    Thank you :bighug:
    Thanks Wendy!

Thank you, Laura :) Wow, I can't believe he made a cat need stitches, that's insane! I'm glad he has chilled out in his old age ;)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has gone through this but I'm sorry you had to go through it as well. Is it ok to give our babies cheese? I might have to try that next time!!! Thank you for sharing your experiences :)

Its a tiny amount doesn't give either of them any GI issues.
Friends of mine use to give their cat his meds wrapped in a piece of ham, o you could hide in a bit of roast chicken if you'd prefer to not give him anything with lactose, given his tummy troubles.

Hope you and mo have a better day:bighug::bighug:
