Hi Marlene! Welcome to the LBL forum! I hope Levemir works better for Karl than Prozinc did! Here's the link to your previous post (created by Sasha for you) https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/switching-insulin.243518/ Tagging @Wendy&Neko and @Gill & George In the meanwhile I can help you with updating your SS and Signature so it is in the format that makes it easy for us to get the info we need on Karl. Bhooma
Sure! Have sent a request for edit access to your SS. It would have come to your Gmail - check inbox and spam folder! I will send you a PM (private message) for the Signature - it will come in your Inbox on FDMB. Lastly, your thread title say +2 is 256, but it should be 356
Hi Marlene. Welcome Not a big drop so far, Levemir, starts to work later than prozinc, around +4 hrs from insulin injection, and you would expect the nadir (lowest point in the cycle) around +8 to +10. Levemir is longer acting and is a depot insulin, so you might also find that it takes a few cycles to see the full effect of this dose, though sometimes when you change insulins you might get an initial big reaction. If you are home at +4 I would recommend getting a test then to see if his BG comes down. or if he is still in mid pink or red numbers.
Just saw that +7, still dropping, but nothing crazy, +9 or+10 next test. How have you been feeding? Maybe give him a snack of his regular LC food.
I’ve been feeding him with raw fish and LC canned food every time I’ve been testing him. Otherwise I can’t test him. And he is still dropping at +9
The nadir is Levemir is later than Prozinc and Lantus. It can be as late as the end of the cycle or even +13. 265 and 279 are more or less flat if you consider meter variance
Because Lev onsets (starts to take effect) usually around +4, If you test at +2, could you set an alarm and check at +6 or +7?
Still flat at +2, Make sure you give him something to eat before bed. Set an alarm for +6. If he has dropped significantly you will need to monitor him. As he could continue dropping for some hours after. Shout for help if you need it. Change the title and say Help Please!!!! New to Lev dropping. Something like that. I am in Europe so I won't be up.
Thanks Gill! Marlene has my number and has permission to call whenever she need help. I've had my own few PJ parties so I know what to do, or at least I can ask for help while she feeds him She won't be alone no matter what
That makes me feel better, I was worried she might find it difficult to communicate she needed help. .
Then she'll call me, and I'll help what I can, and communicate for her, if needed So absolutely no need to worry, you can sleep like a baby! And while du you that, ill be green of envy!
Lol Thanks Sasha. It's great Marlene has a fellow Dane to keep her company. It's probably best to keep any advice public on her thread for continuity and so we all know what has gone on. It helps to be able to look back at what worked and what didn't when giving advice.
