I will be testing frequently after this one. He just got some HC food to snack on.
He's been on Cabergoline for a month now. Originally his vet said to give him 1ML every 72 hours. I've been giving it to him every 48 hours. I'm hoping he's starting to need reduced doses, but I don't even know where to start.
Yesterday PM I gave him a reduced dose of 8U (from 12)
This morning he was low at shot time, but to pad a bounce, I went ahead and gave him 6.5U.
Now I think I might be fighting a hypo.
Due for another shot in 4 hours that I will not be home to give nor monitor his sugars during that cycle. Should I go ahead and have my mom skip it and just monitor his actions while I'm at work?
How do I figure out what I need to back his dose down to?

The 12 unit depot is still heavily influencing what you are seeing. The larger depot can influence up to six cycles after you reduce. As an aside, you'd probably get quicker dosing help on the Lantus/Basaglar/Levemir forum. Dosing depends on the insulin, not the underlying conditions. And a "hypo" is what we call it when we see hypo symptoms. Cats not on insulin can test in the 40's, we just don't want cats on insulin to go there. Good job getting him back up over 50. You might want to put notes in the spreadsheet Remarks about how much food you fed and when, to help you decide what to give next time you see a low number.

As for tonight, does mom test at all? If he's over 150 at shot time, he'll probably be well on his way to a bounce and you could have her safely give the same dose as this morning. If he's still low, you can have her skip. If you were home an able to test, my suggestions would be for more insulin in both cases.

If he's been getting cabergoline every two days, is that about 14 doses he's had? It could be the cabergoline is starting to work. In which case, I might call 10 units as his new dose tomorrow morning. The reduced doses are fine, and a way to help reduce the depot. Normally your new dose would be 11 units, but with cabergoline in there a 2 unit reduction gives you some room for safety.

Wow, he's really gone low today and it seems very sudden -- he hasn't been green much at all. You did well in your testing. He doesn't look like he's going to be over 150 at shot time. I hope Shadow will come up a bit for you and stay steady!
