Hello - my sugar boy was diagnosed at the end of January, and put on Vetsulin 2U every 12 hours. He went back for a fructosamine test 2 weeks later and they told me to up him to 3U. Luckily I had found this group and did not! At that time I also requested a change of insulin because of what I had read here. They wouldn't do it. So I am taking him to a new vet tomorrow, who prescribes Prozinc! I am super excited for Wyatt. Are there any suggestions on transitioning from one to another??? I'm glad I will be keeping the U40 syringes! Thank you!!
1. Read the Sticky posts at the top of this forum. 2. More monitoring the first little bit, as you need to learn how Wyatt is doing on the new insulin. See the Sticky posts for guidelines. 3. Dose of the new insulin is usually based on the dose of the old insulin. 4. You need to know how low the dose of insulin is dropping Wyatt, so some mid-cycle tests are important. Not just the pre-shot tests.
I have a question about buying Prozinc...............what/where have you found the best prices??? TIA
I recently switched from Vetsulin to Prozinc too. I got mine from Chewy for $108.99 before tax and they had free shipping. 1-800-petmeds had a coupon for Prozinc but charged for shipping so it would have ended up being about the same price for me through either one.
Purrfect...........I use Chewy! How is your sugar baby responding to the Prozinc? Do you like it better?
George has proven a little difficult to regulate so far, but Deb & Wink and JanetNJ have been really helpful with dosing advice. I’m still trying to get to the correct one, but these last couple of days I have been noticing a longer duration of the Prozinc as compared to Vetsulin, so that’s definitely a plus.
Sending all the good vibes for George! So grateful for this group and all those that have gone before us who are willing to help.
Same to you! It looks like Wyatt and George were diagnosed at almost the same time and are now on a similar journey with the insulin changes. Good luck with the Prozinc!
