Oh, George. He bounced for about five cycles after his previous 49 and just came back down today but is already at 47 +3. Just fed him 2 tsp HC and will monitor.
Iiiiiiinteresting. Technically that's a reduction, but I'm not sure a reduction will hold since (1) it's a bounce breaking cycle and (2) since it took him so long to "catch" good numbers after this last one and bounced pretty high. Up to you! Worst case you reduce, then bring him back up if it doesn't work. With Mr Kitty I always waited for two drops/a drop on non break cycle...and sure enough it never happened and I've been increasing ever since lol
Ughh poor cat, it’s like it’s becoming a perpetual cycle of hard bounce breaks that turn into a lot more bouncing. That makes sense about waiting for two under 50 though with how he’s been progressing. I was thinking I would only reduce if he happened to be in the blues at shot time, but it looks like he’s already heading for another bounce
He’s actually in the blacks already (yikes!). Do you think I should still stick with 2.5 or go back to 2.75 until he starts to come back down again?
I would hold 2.5 and see what happens after this bounce clears. If he gets down near 50 again I'd hold, but if only high greens then I'd go back up to 2.75.
Interesting that George is going lower much later in the cycle today. He’s at 54 at +6.5…very unexpected/different from his usual cycles.
That's how it's supposed to be, he needs to get with the program LOL I think it just took some time to shake the bounce maybe
George is still holding onto those greens for now (thankfully!), and it’s still a couple of hours until shot time…which with him means plenty of time to spike a few colors…but is there a certain number at pmps that you would recommend taking that reduction to 2.25? Or still try 2.5 regardless?
Hmm, I wish all these weren't bounce breaking cycles. My gut says hold because all these 50s are breaking cycles, if he finally stops bouncing I think you'll get some nice numbers. Historically, when you've shot low on non-bouncing cycles, he stays pretty nice and flat. So given his trend right now, I'd be inclined to shoot 2.5 and see if he holds nicely. Always happens at night If you need some sleep or a break, no harm in trying a reduction to see how it goes.
Sounds good. We’re about 20 minutes from shot time so I’ll be able to see where he is then. I’m thinking as long as he’s above like 90 that makes sense…he had such a nice day on 2.5u when I shot that 99 the other day. These bounces are definitely making his data a little difficult for me to decipher.
He was 107 last night so I gave him the 2.5 and it seemed to work beautifully. He was 92 this morning so I went with 2.25, but it’s looking like that may have been a mistake (ugh). I second guessed it right after I did it because I told myself yesterday that as long as he was over 90 I would try sticking with the 2.5. Depending on how the day goes I might be back on later to ask about pm dosing (whether to go back to 2.5 or see how he does on 2.25 for a while longer). We’re just at +3 right now so still have a ways to go to see how he does today….not liking that +2.5 though.
Live and learn! Nbd. I'm just glad last night worked out. Timing should work out, I should hopefully be on here by PMPS time
I actually think this is a delayed bounce. We'll see if he clears it by tonight, if he doesn't will make for an interesting decision. I'd lean towards holding the 2.25 either way in case he does break a bounce overnight.
Ok sounds good! Tonight might be a little interesting for us anyway because I have to leave right after his pm shot and probably won’t be home until +5ish. Of course when he crashes it’s usually between +2 and +4. My husband may be able to come home and try to check him around +3, but he has only ever been able to “successfully” check him once (I use quotes because George had been in the yellows two hours before and was in the blacks at test time that day, and I highly suspect that was due to a very stressful testing experience for both of them). He tried again last week and got an error, but George has actually gotten MUCH better at testing in the last month now that he associates the pokes with a treat, so it may be easier for him now.
Hmm I’m only thinking 2.25 since I can’t be home, but do you think 2.5 would help him stay in better numbers?
That's fine! I don't think there's harm either way, but I always prefer to err on the side of caution. And I don't think you can prevent his bounces lol by all means he really shouldn't be bouncing on some of these, but cats do what cats do!
Ahh my husband just checked and he’s at 36. He’s feeding him HC now. I told him to check again in 10 and Karo syrup and more HC if he’s still low.
Husband said he’s eating a lot of the gravy food. Of course this is like the only time I’m not there.
Husband said it’s coming up! He’s going to check him again and send me an update soon. Said he’s acting fine and eating so that’s good.
Ok all good and I’m home now. He had gone up to the 70s, then back to the 50s when my husband was feeding him HC and testing him and now at 62 at +5.5ish (3 hours after that 36). George has been having a harder and harder time coming back from the quick drop/high bounce cycles (staying higher longer after) so I expect he’ll bounce and be high again in the morning in which case I probably need advice on whether to take the reduction right away. It seemed to work out better to wait to take the reduction until he was coming down from the bounce last time, but he has never gone this low before.
Yes 36 is definitely a dose reduction. sorry I wasn't around, late here. Good job husband! Reduction may not hold but that was a borderline unsafe drop, better to fail a reduction than have him go too low again. Some guidance for those lows: - Since George usually feeds his own curve, if you see him in the 50s let him hang out, but check every 30 mins til going up. - 40s is HC. If a very steep, early drop like you saw tonight, I'd give 1-2 tbsp. If later in the cycle/possibly at nadir, 1-2 tsp. Retest in 20 mins. If above 50, let him be but continue testing 30 mins for about 2 hrs to make sure he doesn't drop again. If still 40s, rinse and repeat until he's staying up on his own. - 30s is HC and honey/karo, retest every 10 mins. Again depends on drop, same amounts as above. If in 30s, rinse and repeat. If in 40s, follow directions above. - 20s and lower is just do whatever you can to get the number up. Bunch of HC, honey, karo, whatever. Test every 10, honey wears off quickly. The HC food is needed though to keep numbers up longer term, can't rely just on honey. That's just a quick boost to get them into better numbers. Sometimes those lime greens can cause a panic mode, and it's ok! As long as you're keeping them 30s and higher you're ok, it's just stressful and lot of work sometimes. Always better to overcompensate with the higher carb food when you're not sure.
For reference, Bhooma (Bandit's Mom) and Bron (Bron and Sheba) are usually around this late. Sometimes Wendy&Neko. So if you get lows you can tag them and they can help. They're not ProZinc users, but they'll help you get out of the lows, and you have enough data for them to know what to do. When I get lows middle of the night, I like to go to the Forums page. At the bottom it shows some users who are online; I'm perhaps more familiar with all of them than you are, but if I see an experienced person on that list I'll tag them. You can click on their username, if their profile says "Well-known Member" or higher chances are they can help, or tag someone who can.
Thanks for both of these! I wish had been here last night since that was even a quicker/lower drop than we’ve seen before, but glad my husband was able to test and take care of him. 427 this morning, which is pretty much expected. I’ll see how he does on this 2U for the next couple of days.
