Wacky day yesterday and now this morning. I can deal with her numbers being all over the place for a day but I worry about her not eating as well as she usually does. I have the Mirataz (transdermal) but would like to see her eat on her own. She did start eating her AMPS food so that is good.

Interesting rocket launch in my backyard tonight. SpaceX. Four civilians. Three days. Prayers for a successful launch and return.

This is very discouraging. Back-to-back pinks. She did eat almost every bit of her breakfast. :woot:

Wow, I didn't expect to see those pinks! Susie is being mysterious with these recent numbers. We need to flatten out those numbers! That would help the eating issue.

I will be watching to see if Susie decides to drop again today.

I hope you are right about the eating issue working itself out if I can get her flatter and in to better numbers. I gave her a lot of h/c last night. I wonder if that had anything to do with the high numbers? You would not think so after all the time that has passed since she last had h/c. I thought we had beaten the bounce but what else could this be? I hope I don't have to worry about a new medical issue.

Maybe she is trying to tell you that she would like a food change? Amethyst does this to me whenever she decides she does not like her food any more:arghh:Can be very upsetting trying to find one that she will eat:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I was wondering about that too, Pamela. Unfortunately, she likes the seafood Fancy Feast the best and I only say that because I know folks on the site discourage seafood. She seems to have lost interest in the beef and the beef and chicken. I'll see if she will still eat the chopped grill. I do have a lot of the seafood ones on hand so might see if she will eat that tonight. She didn't like the Weruva or the Tiki Cat I bought. I might have to try the Friskies pates. Thanks for the tip.

Curious as to why you gave her high carb last night? Earlier in the day when she hit those numbers you gave her medium carb and she seemed to stay a little flatter (yellows not pinks).

I've never heard of or seen the FF Skip Jack Tuna. The fish ones I get are ocean whitefish, cod, soul and shrimp and the salmon.

She had a huge drop last night between PMPS and +2 and also I wanted to sleep. She didn't hit those numbers earlier in the day but she did the day before. I think I made a mistake on my ss for when she hit 69 at +3 on the 13th. I'm pretty sure I would have given the m/c at that point and not the l/c which is what I listed. It is easier to work with lower numbers during the day. Not so much at night when I want to sleep. I will take fewer chances at night.

Do you know what % the HC food is? Susie's numbers jump after she eats that. I wonder if you could find a lower % HC to try or maybe a higher % MC.

21%. I just bought a whole bunch of FF Gravy Lovers Beef at 20%. This is now my h/c staple. I really don't have any lower h/c food. I have several m/c at 13% and the Royal Canin Glycobalance is 14%. Nothing around 16% to 18% but will look for that the next time I shop.

You can mix both the MC and HC to get roughly 16-17% if you do equal amounts. I was told that when I had to find a different % to give Rex.

Thank you, Adrienne. I am getting really worried. The numbers are a problem but the lack of eating is much more concerning. It has always been my biggest fear. If that doesn't get better by tomorrow morning I will need to take her to the vet. I just hope they will be able to get her in soon.

I'll have to look for it. I have never even heard of the Purely Fancy Feast.

I have a question for you, Pam. After a recent conversation with you, when you recommended the Gerbers chicken and gravy for a cat that won't eat, I ordered a couple of jars. Unfortunately, they are not salt/sodium free. Thy
e have a 40 mg sodium content. My question is is I can't get Susie to eat tonight do you think it will be safe enough to try and introduce this to her? I would hope that she would eat on her own but I am prepared to syringe. I am really hoping it won't come to this but I probably screwed up with the purchase with the 40 mg sodium. What do you recommend?

Thank you, Mandy. At this point I don't care what her numbers are. She is not eating and that is my biggest concern. Have you ever used Mirataz? I'm going to post and ask questions,

Okay, so Susie did not eat her lunch. She has been sleeping all day but still purrs for me. I have a prescription for Mirataz and I remember using it with my Simon who was in CKF. The box says to put it on on the inside of the ear. My prescription says "the outside of pinna". Which should I do? If she doesn't eat tonight I will be calling the vet first thing in the morning.

No, I used cyproheptadine as I heard it was more gentle than Mirtaz by not causing them to get too hopped up and eating everything in sight. But both works for nausea.

I'd put it on the inner ear on the skin if it was me.

Thanks, Mandy. Susie finally came out from my bedroom so I think she is looking for food. I guess she knows the routine. She may act hungry but the key will be to seeing her actually eat. I will use the Mirataz on the inner ear if I need to. I also made an appointment at the vet tomorrow but it won't be until 4:30. I have never heard of the cyproheptadine before. Does it have a "common" name? Frankly, I would love it if she ate everything in site. As I have always said, I can deal with the higher numbers but not the lack of an appetite.

Susie ate ALL of her dinner tonight (1.5 oz). It was the Fancy Feast Cod, Soul and Shrimp. I am so grateful because I know she will be feeling better. Her numbers are still really high but my concern was the inappetence.

I will see how she is doing later tonight with her glucose numbers. I don't think I need to do a lot of testing tonight but will check her +2 and get a +5. I think I am going to step away from the site now. Thank you to everyone who offered support over the last couple of days. This problem may not be over but I do have a vet appt. tomorrow late afternoon if I still feel I need it.

I did not get the earlier tag, so maybe none of them worked. I just go the most recent tag. I'm glad Susie ate her dinner. I hope the vet appointment goes well tomorrow. I believe the pinna is just inside the ear near the tip.

I think with tags it is best to put each one on a separate line and not in a row to get them to work properly. :bighug:

Mirataz definitely goes on the INSIDE of the ear. I have a lot of experience with it. Go slow and use half dose at first to see how she responds. I hope you can get her to the vet tomorrow. I am worried since her appetite is not 100 percent. But she did eat some for you, right?

Cyproheptadine is the generic name. The brand name is Periactin. It is an antihistamine that acts, in cats, as an appetite stimulant. It’s been around and used for this purpose in cats for a LONG time. It’s just another appetite stimulant options in cats. Some cats do well on it. Other do better with Mirataz or oral Mirtazapine.

Glad you were able to get a vet appointment today. I'm "ok" with a day or two without much food but anymore and I really start to worry. The FF higher carb foods I keep on hand are Gravy Lovers Beef Feast in Beef Flavor Gravy (chart says it's 20%) and Gravy Lovers Chicken Feast in Chicken Flavor Gravy (chart says it's 15%). It's interesting that they're both Gravy Lovers but different % carbs. I almost ALWAYS give the 15%. He seems to respond pretty quickly.

As for transdermal mirtazapine, I use it for my pancreatitis kitty sometimes. It goes on the skin in the inner ear and instructions and vet both said to make sure I wear a glove when applying it. It definitely increases his appetite.
