Anivive Lifesciences, a pet pharmaceutical company, and Basepaws, a pet DNA sequencing company, have formed a new partnership to study feline genetics and diabetes. The companies are encouraging veterinarians and cat owners interested in participating to sign up on AniviveTrial.com.

If you would like to participate, which involves completing a short survey and then receiving a DNA saliva test kit, click on the link below and follow the instructions. Saliva collection requires just a swipe of saliva on a single swab so it is quick and easy.

Study Information including enrolling your kitty in the study.

This looks great. Unfortunately, is onlu for cat owners in the US and Canada.

Just letting people know so they don't need to go through all the clicks I did to find out :)

Teal'c was accepted. You have to have a fructosamine test done however, they want it for some reason. When I filled out the application I had entered that I home test so no fructosamine numbers. They did send a letter of acceptance said they would accept him as soon as I could get a fructosamine done. I did have it done and sent the number. I did also send a link to his SS which they said was very helpful.

He was accepted on the 20th of July still waiting for the kit.

Babu was accepted in a previous study Basepaws made and taking the sample was quite easy but sending them the samples back was a big nightmare so I'm guessing that's why they are only considering US and Canada residents in this one, the DNA results they sent me were quite interesting

This might be of limited interest, but for UK owners of Burmese, the Royal Veterinary College is doing a similar study on inheritance of diabetes within the UK Burmese population, where it is a particular problem (4x the incidence in other breeds). They are interested in health information on all Burmese, and blood samples from diabetic Burmese for genetic sequencing.

I will be participating next time we need to take Maddie in for a blood test!

Darn. Dora is disqualified due to being < 7 years old and < 6 months diagnosed!

I signed up for the study back in the summer of 2020. I received the kit, took Andy to the vet for a lot of expensive lab work, sent the kit and lab work in, and have never heard a word from them. I even emailed the guy who had told me Andy was accepted to the program, and asked when I would hear something. He said he would check into it and let me know. I never heard from him again, and I still haven't heard a word from the people the kit went to :-( I'm moderately disappointed :-(

Cleo was accepted into the study and I got the Basepaws DNA results back with everything negative and didn't see anything about diabetes. Was glad to see she was negative for HCM that Sphynx cats seem to get. Hoping to see results of the study.

I have often thought my Smoky has Burmese in him, and he has diabetes (and acromegaly).

FYI, I applied a few months ago and forgot about it as I didn't hear anything. Just got a Basepaws test kit delivered today and found a couple of emails from them in my spam folder. Apparently, Vinnie was enrolled in the study. Will ship the kit back asap and see what happens...

How long did it take for them to send you the kit? I applied in November but haven't heard anything back.:(

I can't remember exactly when I applied but it definitely took months. I had forgotten all about it when I received the kit.

I got hold of the Dr. That was listed in the acceptance letter and in an email mentioned I had not received it yet. He said he would check on it and got it about a week later.

My cat was rejected. It took months and months to receive a reply and no reason was given but I'm thinking that at age 13 he is just too old.

Checkers was just approved for the trial. They are sending the kit in the mail. I enrolled at the end of November so it took about than 2 and a half months.
