Panzer has had some pretty high #s here lately. I think it's due to the metronidazole but I'm not sure. I increased his dose to .75 & he dropped pretty quickly yesterday PMPS. He still sliding through the blues now. Earlier he was doing the pain meow in the cat room by the litter boxes. I went in there & he went in one box to the next trying to pee & nothing. He pooped a little turd but no pee. I was getting ready to call the vet & he got back in the litter box doing the pain meow & he peed thank God. I thought for sure he was plugged & I know that is an emergency situation. My cat that passed away in 2007 had to be catheterized twice due to being plugged. I will be keeping a close eye on him. I guess that means he still has a UTI unless it has to do with the giardiasis? He's been on every antibiotic zeniquin, amoxicillin, clavamox, doxycycline. What else is there left to try? Panzer had to have Fortiflora on his food @PMPS feeding. Spook had mirataz on his ear this morning around 6am. He ate all of his meals today but was really slow at eating his food @ PMPS feeding. I normally put a little mirataz on in the am & again in the pm. I'm afraid I'm over dosing him? Should Iput more on his ear for the +4 PMPS feeding? They get there 2nd dose of metronidazole at that feeding. Panzer & Spook have a vet appointment on Tuesday May 24th should I still take them? It was supposed to be for bloodwork for Spook & a urinalysis & bloodwork for Panzer. They will still be on the metronidazole though. My doctor called & said that giardiasis is hard to detect in humans so she was calling me in a script & treating me for it anyways. https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/thr...stions-156-3-104-4-125-7.263137/#post-2948700

Spook ate all of his meals today & I only used the Mirataz on his ear once. Panzer had to have fortiflora on 2 meals.

Mirataz dosing is once per day. Do you think he might be constipated instead? That can cause higher numbers.

Ok thank you, he's having to be coaxed to eat now, so I will put some on his ear @+2 AMPS. Panzer had to have fortiflora on his AMPS feeding. He's been pooping sometimes normal stool & sometimes liquid stool so that's not it. I forgot to give the metronidazole on 5/19 AMPS & he was in the blues for the entire AM & PM cycle I believe, would have to double check my spreadsheet to be sure. I just wish they would both be well again. Panzer has had this UTI for way to long & now this!

I just looked at his spreadsheet, he was in the yellow after having the metronidazole on 5/19.

How much are you putting on? I would definitely not do twice a day since it should last for 24 hours or more (in some of my cats, I've had to go to EOD mirataz, but ECID). Instead of trying the twice a day thing, you could just use a little longer strip on their ear? Unless you've already maxed out on the 1.5 inch strip, that is.

As for diagnosis of the giardia, it can be hard to diagnose in cats as well... because it depends on if/when the cysts are being shed in the stool.

What's the course of treatment for you? How many days? Oh well... it's better than giving a stool sample, isn't it?

CVS is taking there time getting it ready but I believe she said 10 days on it for me. Definitely better than giving a stool sample.

I put it on once yesterday & he did good eating all of his meals. I put it on this morning @+2.5 AMPS. If he gives me trouble the rest of today, I will pull out the parmesan cheese.

I hope so too but I don't think it is with the occasional pain meow. I bought drinking water from Walmart incase it's in the water, they don't drink water but I add it o there wet food. I don't think I have it, but I'm glad I'm being treated for it as well. I think my stomach ache the other day was from taco bell o_O yes I just want them both to be better. My poor sweet boys:cat: & Panzer's #s are super high. He acts fine though.

My Henry was diagnosed with cystitis since he was 4 years old. He ended up having two surgeries. Never had an UTI but he had crystals in urine which made him straining and one time peeing with blood (painful) because the crystals irritated his bladder. The catheter thing sadly did not work hence the 2 surgeries. The dr said though this disease is more likely in younger cats and not older cats (his last surgery was when he was 7 or 8). They always gave him antibiotics (clavomox) and pain medicine with each episode. The pain relief really helped (buprenex injectable lasts 3 days but made him really out of it). The oral one had no effect. I once spent my birthday in the ER with Henry due to an episode 10 pm to 2 am and then back again at 7 am because the night ER doctor was new and clueless:) Hope the vet can figure it out and help your baby. Fingers crossed.

My kitty that was diagnosed with gardiasi is my non diabetic kitty Spook, he is 5 so this is interesting to know. My diabetic boy Panzer is 10 he's being treated as well because they use the same litter boxes & groom each other. I can not get them to drink water for the life of me, so I put 2 -3 tablespoons of water in there wet food. I even bought a water fountain to entice them to drink. Spook was interested but Panzer was not. When I changed them to drinking water in a jug from Walmart I emptied the water fountain & cleaned it & put jug water in it. It quit working so I sent it back. I have no clue why Panzer is still having symptoms of a UTI. I really don't know what steps to take next to get him better.

Are you seeing a regular vet or feline specialist vet? I went to 3 vets and each provides different level of support but I found the feline specialist knows a whole lot more about cats especially nutrition and chronic conditions. It is not close to my house but was well worth it for me for the diabetes. I wish I saw a feline specialist when Henry was younger to prevent and not to treat these chronic conditions. It may be an option for you if you are not getting anywhere with Panzer and his UTI symptoms. Maybe ask the vet if they can check for crystals in his urine. I would see also about pain relief medicine. I am the last person to give advice as I am new here but worth having this discussion with the vet and together you can make an informed decision. Henry never accepted water in his wet food so you are smart to do that if the kitties are ok with it. I fed Henry water from chicken breasts cans for people (check ingredients) low sodium tuna (check ingredients), raw chicken to add moisture. The vet said if he did not go to the bathroom in24 hrs he could be blocked and bring him to the ER. And so I did many times. Once he went 35 hours without peeing at all. Drove me nuts. I think he has a pretty big bladder though. Now i take him and put him in the litter box and 80% of the times he does his business immediately to my relief. Anyways, vet said some male cats are prone to crystals in urine more than others about 30%. My parent's kitties are both male cats and never had issues. Each cat is different. Hope Panzer will feel better in no time.

Yes we are seeing a regular vet. They are both supposed to go back to the vet on Tuesday Panzer for a urinalysis & bloodwork & Spook for bloodwork, but they won't be finished with the metronidazole until Wednesday. I'm not sure if it's necessary to go on Tuesday but if Panzer still has a UTI, I don't want him to suffer. They gave me some info on a cat clinic that is not to far from me, I haven't really checked it out though. Panzer has had several urinalysis & they have checked samples that I have brought in & no crystals,no ketones, & no Glucose. I have 2 emails waiting for me to confirm their appointment, just not sure what to do. He's peeing now with no pain meow. Every time I hear one of them or see one of them in the litter box, I run in there to make sure they are peeing.

I was thinking that you should put it off until the end of the week, but I am not sure if you would be able to get in. Can you just take Panzer in to check his urine? Spook was scheduled for just regular bloodwork? I think I would still wait until they finish up to do bloodwork- only because taking any meds can affect the bloodwork. I would give them at least a few days to detox from it. Now if Spook seems really sick then, of course, take him in. How’s the eating?

That's what I was thinking too. Spook is eating good. I've been putting the Mirataz on his ear between +2 & +3 AMPS. They both had to have fortiflora on there AMPS feeding, surprisingly Spook is eating it with fortiflora. Once I put th Mirataz on his ear though he is fine, begging for food. Yes Spooks appointment was for bloodwork so I will schedule that for a couple of weeks. Panzer's was for a urinalysis & bloodwork, but will just do the urinalysis. I tagged you above about some stuff I have in my Amazon cart.

Sounds good. I know Cerenia fits into a size 4 gelcap- well my Cerenia does anyway (16 mg) but I am thinking yours are bigger? Size 3 is about the biggest I will give. I currently have a kitty who gets a size 2 gelcap but she is easy to pill.

My Cerenia are 24mg as that is all the vet had. I break it in half & give them each a half, of course Panzer is a pill pocket freak so he's easy to pill. I've been putting Spook's in a pill pocket & holding him between my legs opening his mouth & putting it in, it seems to work pretty well, just wanted to get some Capsules incase I need them.

Here’s the one I bought but it’s dreadfully expensive now. I do remember reading that the inner bark was the best, so I believe that is why I bought this. I have a huge amount left over in the bag. If you want some, I will just mail you a whole bunch in a ziplock bag. Free.

I have never heard of it being temperature sensitive. I will check the bag. Just PM me your address. I figure that I will probably never use up this bag and somebody else should get some benefit out of it besides just me. You can then try it and see if it helps your boys before you have to pay for it. I’ll give you a lot though. You have already had so many expenses with them lately that I hate to see you spend more when I can just help you out.

Panzer was very reluctant to eat his food @+4 PMPS feeding(had Metronidazole in a pill pocket as well) Usually fortiflora does the trick but I also had to use parmesan cheese, he ate all but a little bit. He was wandering around the house meowing not like him. I am hoping he's not going to puke!

I would call the vet and ask what they think. I’m not sure if they think it’s necessary to do it via cystocentesis or if it’s just okay to get a home sample for what, I hope, is his final sample for a long time. We have to make sure he’s clear!

Panzer ate his first meal @+8 PMPS with no fortiflora. All other meals for the day he wouldn't eat without fortiflora. He definitely wasn't feeling good, hoping it was due to high numbers today. Vet tomorrow will make a new thread when we get back from the vet.
