Last night Jasper was sick, he barely ateva thing for dinner and I tried to tempt him several times throughout the night with chicken and he ate only a few tiny bites. Last night we decided to give him a half dose, should I do the same today?

I will update with bg numbers as soon as I have them test tine is in about 35 minutes.

Has he thrown up any more? How is your other cat? Is s/he eating okay? Any diarrhea?

Let's see what the numbers are this morning.

Do you have a food he hasn't eaten in a while that could interest him? Cats could develop a food aversion if they associate a food with feeling ill.

@Bandit's Mom he is eating plain chicken this morning as well as some chicken toppers from fancy feast that I had and new I could intice him with. He wouldn't eat either last night but starting to accept food about 45 minutes ago. Shot time is in half an hour. I will test his blood glucose shortly. He has not trown up so far this morning for the last 45 minutes since eating ( or beforehand since last night around 3:30 am or had any diarrhea yet since then.

I will not be home today from +5 until +8 because my husband's work is throwing us a baby shower.

@Bandit's Mom shot time is in 15 minutes, his blood glucose is currently 335. He is eating a bit more chicken now. Should I give a half dose again today? More details above.

@Bandit's Mom ok that seems smart, considering these are the highest numbers we have seen in over a month.

It's important that he eats. Even if the food he is willing to eat is not low carb. Try and get as much food and water into him.

@Bandit's Mom Ok I will give him food all day today until just before his shot tonight, and offer some of his higher carb food now. He is eating this morning a good amount of chicken, I will continue to check in, feed and test bg today throughout the day.

@Bandit's Mom +2 was 431 abd + 4 was 315 I will check again at +6 right before we leave for the shower. Do you think its safe to go to the shower for 3+ hours today with those numbers? I sort of dont know what to expect given the situation.

@Bandit's Mom shot time is in about an hour and jasper threw up a couple times while I was gone today, it looked like someone ate some food but I couldn't be sure if it was him or his sister. I am not sure what to do sbout his shot tonight so I will probably beed a bit of guidance on that. I am going to test keytones as soon as I can catch some pee. I just gave him another Cerenia.

@Bandit's Mom @tiffmaxee his PMPS is 240 I haven't gotten him to eat sonce about 2pm this afternoon. I have tried all the thinkgs that usually entice him but nothing is working. Should I be doing the full dose tonight or a half dose? Shot time is in about 20 minutes. I'm not sure how to proceed.

Can you syringe feed? With dka in the past and his bg rising he needs to get enough insulin, food, and water. I’m tagging Bron who has experience with this. @Bron and Sheba (GA)

    HI Rachel
Has he vomited since you gave the latest cerenia dose?
Can you tempt him with any food at all?
Are you able to monitor this cycle?

@Bron and Sheba (GA) he has not vomited since I gave Cerenia about an hour and 40 minutes ago.

He had food out whole time I was gone but not much was eaten when i got back. I have tried to coax him to eat several times since I got home with all the things he usually will eat. He is not going for any of it.

I am able to monitor this cycle.

I would give him the full dose and try and get him to eat anything..doesn't matter if it is high carb. we just want him to eat.
You may need to syringe feed
Make sure you have some honey or karo in case it is needed.
I will be around for the next 6 hours if you need me

Do you have syringes to assist feed? Being as high as she is I would give a full dose. @Bron and Sheba (GA) what do you think?

Also if you can get a urine ketone test done at some point, that would be good. But concentrate on getting him fed and insulin given first.

@Bron and Sheba (GA) @tiffmaxee I have tried high carb food as well. I have offered up fresh boiled chicken, tuna, the toppers he usually can be tempted by and high carb which he ordinarily will scarf down. I blended some of those things up and syringe fed a little bit. I will keep going on that. I gave the full dose. I am waiting to test for keytones and have everything ready but he has not peed sonce I got home 3 hours ago. I have karo syrup on hand.

@Bron and Sheba (GA) ahould I test again at +1 and +2. I do idelly need some sleep tonight as I was up most of the night last night with him but I will do what I need to make sure he is safe. I'm just 8 months pregnant so it's really exausting.

You are doing a really great job with Jasper.
Just syringe feed a bit at a time. I would see if he would eat on his own first each time. Once he gets a bit of food in his tummy he might feel a bit better.
If he's no better tomorrow I'd take him to the vet. I'd also ask for some ondansetron for nausea

@Bron and Sheba (GA) I definitely plan to take him to the vet tomorrow if this is still going on. I am trying to get him to eat on his own but it is not happening yet so I will keep syringe feeding every so often and offer food each time beforehand. When should I test his BG again?

@Bron and Sheba (GA) +2 was 251, is it safe for me to go to sleep? I can syringe feed a bit more if needed? I can set an alarm at some point if you think that's smart too and wake up to check on him, test and feed.

@tiffmaxee or @Bandit's Mom what do you think? Just hoping to get some input soon so I can hopefully get to bed fir a while.

    Hi Rachel,
I think it is fine for you to go to sleep but I would set the alarm and get up and feed and test a couple of times during the night so that we know he is getting some food and you can check the BG. How does that sound?

@Bron and Sheba (GA) thank you that sounds like a good idea to me. I will set an alarm for 4am ( +6) and 7 am( +9), does that sound reasonable or should I do more than that? Shot time is 9:35am after tonight's delay.

That should be fine. I hope he improves over night. Let us know when you get a ketone test
