Ripley is feeling well today. Perky, PDLB (#1 and #2), a few squawks. Her appy isn't perfect, but she's snacking :smile: .

Well, here it is, that bittersweet day: one year ago today Ripley was diagnosed with feline diabetes.
She exhibited the typical signs: losing weight, drinking lots of water, and continuously hungry. The vet recommended that I PTS; instead I decided to treat her, and here we are.

Two days after diagnosis, I gave Ripley her first insulin shot while she was on the black floor; two days after that, I joined FDMB, received wonderful guidance and support from my new family of beans and furkiddos, and the following day I saw her first green number. The rest has become a life-changing, delicate, and beautiful dance.

Despite a few minor blips over the year (several UTIs) and a pretty big one (her recent/current bout with p'titis and infection), she is generally happy and healthy.
I know I made the best decision ever.

Happy Anniversary! Yes, it is very bittersweet...we all want our furkids to be well all the time, but FD gives us a rare opportunity to bond with them on a very different level. And, we've got the added bonus of our LL family.

Love Ripley's photo - it shows how much she loves her shrimpies. I'm glad she's feeling well today. Keep snacking and healing, little one!

Happy Anniversary!! It is a bitter sweet one, but we all know how much time and effort you have put into it and how far Ripley has come. Plus you gained a whole big family all over the world a year ago. :YMHUG: It is crazy how close we all become to our little sugar babies through this whole dance and I would not trade it for the world.

What a dance it has been huh. Kudos to you for finding LL as soon as you did. We floundered for several months before we came on Board, Sure makes a world of difference doesn't it? You've done so well with Ripley. what a bond it creates for us. I too wouldn't trade those 5 years with Mannie as a diabetic for anything. I am so sure it is the same for you and Ripley.

I love the photo, even the shrimp treats on her nose. ;-)

Very nice that she is feeling good today. Always a good sign when recovering form p'titis. Keep on truckin' Ripley!

Josie, adding my "Happy Annifursary" and agree with the others on it being bittersweet. Amazing with Ripley's turnaround once you found LLMB and the wonderful help. Sending healing vines and prayers. That pic is priceless, love it. She has the cutest expressions. Have a great day.

It is definitely bittersweet. But think of how well Ripley has done overall and how much closer you are now. I'm glad you and Ripley found FDMB.

I love the photo of her with snacks on her nose. She looks so happy and healthy. Are you still with the same vet who recommended PTS a year ago? You did really well to start off this dance, home testing and joining LL so quickly. :YMHUG: :YMHUG: Extra shrimpies in honor of the day please.

A dear friend was so excited about today being Ripley's Annifursary that she took me out to lunch after work to celebrate ~ guess what we ate? Sushi. Kind of appropriate, n'est pas?

Aww, Kim, you made tears of joy fill my eyes ♥ Thank you for the kind words, and for laughing with us (it's truly the best medicine). And, yes, she does get away with ANYTHING. She's my one-and-only ;-) (Those are her words, according to her animal communicator ;-) )

 

Anniversaries are decidedly bittersweet. Ripley's is especially so given that if you'd listened to your vet, you wouldn't be celebrating. I hope Ripley enjoyed her treats and here's wishing you and Ripley many more happy years together.
