    Happy Christmas Eve everyone,

Our last condo was about Ang starting her trial - here. Thank you Carla, Sienne, Dyana, Amy, Julie, BJM, Elise, Marje, Wendy and Ruth for your cheers for Angie's trial and for your advice.

Angie's blood sugar has gone up tonight. Do you think I should I start her on insulin again tomorrow morning? And, if so, what dose could I start with?

Unfortunately it also looks like her ears are infected again. I cleaned black wax out of the upper part of her ear. I'll take her to the vet once they open again. It was meds for the ear infection that got her back on insulin in the first place. :(

I did my best with testing through her trial - it was a great period to have a trial because I started a new heart medication. It's got a lot of promise for me but the side effects have been hard to get used to and I don't know how I would have managed with insulin. I'm told the side effects go away as your body gets used to the drug.

Thank you all again, for your wonderful help.

I wish you all a happy and safe Christmas.

    Grace

I think I'd wait just a bit longer before restarting the insulin. On the OTJ trial instructions it suggests that if you get a blue preshot you feed a little bit and then retest in about 3-4 hours to see if the BGs have come down. Remember, everything under 120 is normal, and she was able to pull back down to 110 after you rechecked. I wouldn't worry too much just yet.

At the same time, I'd try to get her ear addressed immediately, and hopefully without using steroid drops. Antibiotic drops shouldn't increase her blood sugar. Hopefully if the infection gets resolved immediately her blood sugar will settle back down.

If she were mine, I'd do both of those 2 things at the same time. Try to keep her meals small and spread out to minimize the burden on her pancreas, too.

Good luck! My fingers are crossed for your new med too. Merry Christmas!

I kind of have a similar problem. My cat is in remission for a couple of months but he had an eat infection and now it is back. The vet made a culture and it is a bacteria (candida ) he is having ear drops Candibiotic and it doesn´t seem to affect his BG numbers so far.

Even after OTJ he gave me a couple of 128 every once and then but he managed to lowered his numbers by himself, so I would also hold on the insulin, maybe visitors during the holidays or fireworks or something else that was out of her routine made her anxious these days.

Do you know what the ear infection is about? One of my dogs also had ear infections but most of his life to find out years later it was allergy related, she was allergic to meat. In this case just a diet change will do the trick.

    Merry Christmas¡

I hope Angie feels better soon.
