Gracie’s Gratitude Condo

Good afternoon and many vines and prayers to all in need. We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Thank you all so much for visiting our Gratitude condo yesterday and sharing your thoughts. It was uplifting and we appreciate our L/L family so much.

No Lupita Friday as she has the day off to be with her family and Missy G is sick....I noticed late last night that her respirations had increased and she was really lethargic but she didn’t feel warm to me. I kept checking on her during the night. She didn’t hop up on the table in the closet and give me the usual headbutts/purrs but she did eat. I felt her and I could tell she had a temp AND when I checked her urine for ketones yesterday, it was darker like very concentrated but I knew it was bilirubin because we’ve experienced this before. Dr. B is out on Fridays but Dr. W (who we love, too) was there and when I called and asked if I should take her to ER, Dr. W said “absolutely not...we know her best and I’ll take care of her”. She’s so awesome. It appears Gracie has some kind of infection because she did have a temp and Dr. W thinks, because of the bilirubin, that it’s a cholangioheptatitis flare. She put her on clavamox and said to give fluids EOD; we are being cautious here because I gave her fluids on Wed and was going to do it yesterday but she seemed like she still hadn’t absorbed them so it’s important to not over hydrate her especially when she isn’t really dehydrated...it’s just for support and to flush the bilirubin out.

Dr. W is really sharp about FD and since we are on unchartered territory for Gracie (really high numbers), I thought I’d bounce some dosing ideas off her. She said that it’s going to be tough to get on top of the numbers as long as she’s receiving 5 mg/pred a day and she hopes that the oncologist will reduce that dose once Gracie starts chemo. She said the pred causes insulin resistance and since I just took her dose up yesterday, give the a/b time to kick in and six cycles on the dose. I told her I thought when I increased the dose (assuming I will need to), I’d do it by 0.25u because it’s a new ball game here and our fine tuning increases are not going to be enough. She thought that was really smart because of the nature of the pred. She said she doesn’t have any other clients who give R and it would normally make her nervous but she knows we watch her closely and have done this a while. Of course, the numbers today are probably also the infection but primarily the pred. So we’re back to daily ketone checks but that’s ok...it’s easy and worth it.

I started converting Gracie to a home cooked diet a couple weeks ago and have finally finished that conversion and I’ve been using Alnutrin to provide the vitamins/minerals and also using the recipes. It’s a good thing because Gracie won’t touch the canned food but she’s eating the home cooked really well (anti jinx). And if I do have to syringe it to her, it’s a good consistency and she’s easy.

I'm so sorry to hear that Gracie is not feeling well. I'm sending vines for the a/b to do its job and get her quickly on the road to feeling better.

Poor little Gracie but she has the best mama bean! Great to hear she's eating the home cooked meals...that I believe is the best. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in full force!

Thank you all so much. I wish I could answer each note tonight but Gracie is feeling pretty awful and I'm just watching her and trying to take care of her. Her BG is the highest it's ever been on lev and I can just see in her face that she feels terrible. She's drinking and peeing a lot. Very lethargic. I know I need to give the a/b a little time. I gave her fluids. I've been making sure she eats e laugh calories, checking ketones. I wish it were me instead of her.

Thanks for the update, poor LBG and poor bean. Paws crossed the drugs do their bit and tomorrow is another day.

((((Marje)))) hang in there, this is tough but you're doing a good job. I would think you can be fairly aggressive with the R as long as you're getting food into her. That might help her feel better while you're waiting to increase the Lev dose. I hope you and Gracie will get some relief tonight.

Oh no, Liz is in Tucson and is going to call her and see if Marje needs her help or company.

Prayers for Gracie, come home soon little one

 

They pulled pinkish fluid from her belly. Running labs and calling oncologist who owns this ER and specialty clinic and is the vet we see Mon. Trying to find out why it happened so fast. She was normal at PMPS but at +2, her belly was swollen.

Thank you all so much.

We are back. She has a lot of fluid in her abdomen and they believe it is a progression of the lymphoma. Her liver values are all elevated again...higher this time and they can't rule out that the lymphoma has spread to her liver. They started her on chemo and dropped back the pred dose. They said her condition is "guarded". We see the oncologist Monday but they said to bring her back in if she worsens in any way.

She is a fighter....she was bright eyed and alert there. Liz,wonderful friend that she is, came and sat with me. It means so much!

 

She's in the best hands, Marje! You're both fighters.
Thoughts, prayers, white light, vines, and tons of hugs... it's all coming your way.

Gracie has the best mama and papa bean around! It is so tough when our babies aren't feeling well! But it certainly sounds like you have an awesome team helping her! Sending healing vines to Gracie and many hugs to you!

LBGs abdomen has more fluid this morning but they told me it likely would. She's not eating now but she lets me syringe feed her....she's so good and brave. She's alert and purrs when I pet her but I know she doesn't feel good. Her AMPS was 585 on the AT. I can't imagine how horrible this makes her feel when she's spent the majority of the last five years below 200. My heart aches at how she must be feeling and I just hold her and love her. I'm sue we will be going back to the ER today....they said if she didn't eat, come back. Of course, I won't leave her....they will never get her to eat.

Thank you for your prayers. We need those L/L land miracles now so much but I know others need them, too, so please be sure and spread them around.

Marje, I know I don't know enough about Gracie and her condition, I was wondering if a small drainage tube would be possible to keep the fluid at bay until the meds kick in and you see the specialist on Monday. It would keep her comfortable I would think but I don't know if they do that on animals.

I am so sorry Gracie is having such a tough time. F'ing lymphoma Many, many prayers for her and you.

 

Thank you for this idea but they have to be very careful about putting any needles or tubes in the abdomen when there is lymphoma. They “can” do it if it gets really bad but quite often, the pockets of fluid are not big enough to draw a lot off. They are hoping the chemo drug started last night will help with that.
