I'm at vet but want to thank you all so much for your miracle prayers. I'll post more later as waiting for vet to discuss dismissal and the we are headed home. Will update then.

You all make us all smile....esp the LBG as I read her all your posts.

What a long day! But she is home and lots of good news. Her labs are normal except her ALT and ALP which are coming down but the one we really worry about...bilirubin...is totally normal. Her HCT is coming up. She is still occasionally breathing with her mouth here and there but they took her out of the oxygen cage early this morning and kept checking her pulse ox and it was perfect. They think because she has such a flat face, a teeny tiny nose, and there is still a tiny bit of fluid in her lungs, she might do this a bit. If it gets more pronounced...back she goes. They are hoping it will continue to improve the longer she is on the heart meds (enalapril). She has been all over the house. She cracked me up because as soon as I turned into the “hood” she knew it; so smart because I come a different way from the ER clinic than our regular clinic but she still knew and she sat up and was looking around and so excited.

The big surprise was Tobey. He actually started acting yesterday like he was kinda liking being the only cat in town. When she got home today, they exchanged several headbutts, he sniffed her head, and then gave her two very quick but light whacks on the head. He’s pouting a little bit. We are very surprised as he loves her so but I guess the vetty smell was just too much for him. I’m sure he’ll get over it.

The only snafu to the day was the ER vet that took over this morning. I am sure she is on days because she is young and if she’s there during the day, the owner of the clinic is also there. Mike called to check on Gracie while I was getting ready and despite Dr. K's (oncologist/owner) orders to check Gracie’s BG every 2 hours unless she had nadired and was on the way UP, they had not checked her BG since AMPS and it was +4 and she told Mike she didn’t intend to check it until +6. He told her it needed to be checked NOW because Gracie could dive and he asked if she’d been fed as we told them to and she said “diabetic cats only need to eat twice a day”. He jumped her you know what and when I got over there, I also had a little “come to Jesus” meeting with her. She is definitely one of those vets who thinks the caregiver knows nothing and she knows it all. I asked her if she knew what kind of insulin Gracie was on and she said “various” and I said “no she isn’t; do you know her basal insulin?” “No”. And I said “then you do not know when she might onset or nadir, right?” She just stared at me and said “She’s at 96 which is a great number” and I told her “NOT if she started at 475 and she just onset and has an entire cycle ahead of her”. I told her she would do much better in her veterinary career if she would learn to listen to the CG and not just dismiss them; Mike told her we’d been managing Gracie’s diabetes for over 5 years and she completely ignored him. Her attitude got to me so much that I finally said, “No disrespect intended and I don’t mean to sound arrogant, but I guarantee you that I know more about management of FD than you are likely ever to if you continue with this attitude. We’re paying you to manage the lymphoma and heart issue and WE will manage her FD”. At that time, I could tell she had totally tuned out and had the “I’m the vet; you are a client and are not as smart as me”. Thankfully, Dr. K came in before I could throttle this young “know it all”.

But...all is good that our baby is home. She still has a way to go to be 100% but she seems so happy; I got her sweet headbutts and purrs. I just hope she doesn’t over do it but Dr. K said kitties are pretty good about pacing themselves and not doing more than they are ready to do.

You all have gotten us through these very scary, difficult days. Our love for our L/L land family has always been strong and we want you to know that we keep each of your kitties (and you all) in our prayers.

Welcome home, Gracie. And WOW on Miss SmartyPants vet. I could almost - almost - see it if Gracie was just diagnosed by her this past weekend (not that I agree, of course, but I could see her saying these things to a newbie who knows nothing), but to cop such an attitude with a CG who as been at it for 5 years is just rude and obnoxious.

Anyway, enjoy the homecoming and wonderful news!!!

I'm so sorry you had to deal with that vet and her gaps in FD knowledge (and courtesy with clients). But I'm sure glad LBG is back home. LL Land is breathing a collective sigh of relief today. How funny that Tobey greeted her with swats. Maybe love pats? Or 'don't ever leave me again, sis' taps? Get some rest tonight -- and lots of snuggles and headbutts. Continuing to send healing vines to Gracie.

welcome home Gracie!! May there be many snuggles, headbutts and cuddles all around. Ugh, sorry the day was tinged by that pissant lady vet. Perhaps you should put gloves on Tobey's paws and send him back in there to swat her but good! Hope you can have some relaxing days ahead.

You don't want to smack your sister. You need to snug with her and lick the "vetty smell" off of her! When she's all nice and back to being Gracie-smelling, then you listen close to Mom and Dad to see if they are talking about that dumb know-it-all vetty bean that was with LBG the last couple of days, and remember her name.....
THEN, the next time you have to go to the vetty bean, you look for that know-it-all know nothing about direbeetes vet, and you smack the vetty bean smell right off of HER!"

That vet sure didn't know who she was talking to, did she? I'd like to think you educated her, but I have the feeling she's one of those that is beyond hope. Pity her clients. I'm glad you have her measure. Hopefully the owner will set her straight.

Meanwhile, there is celebrating to do!! Such huge relief to have her home and doing so well. I, too, think Tobey's reaction was an expression of the anxiety he'd suffered when she was gone. I'm sure they'll be back to normal together soon.

I had to tip toe back to FDMB to see how Gracie was doing. I'm so relieved that she is home and on her way to normalcy... 'Gracie' normal that is. Had to smile at Tobey bopping her once or twice. Maybe he was telling her not to leave him again.

Have been catching up on Gracie's news! Oh my goodness what a worrying time you have had..you must have been beside yourselves with worry. So glad she is home and so much better. Glad you put Miss Smarty Pants vet straight....it is so true....we do know more than they do about FD because we live it.......my vet acknowledges I know more than him about FD and he doesn't mind admitting it.

 

Oh how ridiculous!! That vet needs a serious attitude adjustment if she's going to build a following (and her career!)

I sure hope you talk to the owner of the clinic and let him know how dismissive and condescending she was of you!

Welcome Home Gracie! So glad she is back in the bosom of her family where she belongs

 

I've been gone all day and am THRILLED to see that Gracie is back home where she belongs. She'll put Tobey back in his place if he gets too uppity!

And that young vet . . . oh boy. She messed with the wrong people. I'm glad you had your say - she won't last long as a vet if she dismisses her client's knowledge about their pets, especially when managing a chronic illness like FD. You did her a favor.

YAY!!!!! Gracie is home! Emma finally got back and said that it took KTSS all night to get the vetty smell of Gracie! She had a little discussion w/ Tobes too! Paws crossed that LBG needs no more visits to the ER!
