    Yesterday

So far so good with the reduction yesterday morning. Again, last night at +7.25 he was 50. Had to hang with him for 2 hours to make sure he'd would stay up. Mamma is one tried bean. Going BTB and see what's what at +2.

Lots of love going to Kari right now.

Nice job Bubba but stay on the surf board today. You could use a pokie break and mama bean needs a nap or two!

Bubba, you're looking great, but there's no reason to be such an overachiever. 60s and 70s would be just as good.

Remember there's likely some residual depot action remaining...
this is only the third cycle after the last reduction.

    Bubba's looking really good! :D

But this is Bubs we're talking about! He's a kitty on a mission to go back to doing his outdoor mouse patrols. ;)

Bobbie, I hope all the extra fuds help him surf comfortably tonight. Besides, you can sleep when he's OTJ. ;):p

Yes, when running a cat low like this, they have to be monitored the same every cycle. An alternative is to let him run a little higher. It's a choice...

The problem is it's not the same every cycle. Last night at 12:45, the night before last was 11Pm. He has mamma guessing at what point he will drop.

Which is "why" he requires close monitoring when running low. :)

Seriously, run him in greens... run him higher... it's your choice. Whatever choice you make is the right one for you!
Trust me, I know the hard work involved with keeping kitty in the greens 24/7. There were times I had to take a break... for me.

Exactly. Looking at Bubba's SS, I don't think it's possible right now to accurately predict when he's going to drop. That means you're always on duty.

One thing you can try is to see if low carb is enough to keep him surfing at those times when you have been giving MC or HC. Give the LC and test in 30 minutes to see what happened. If LC is enough to keep him surfing, then you might have a little more leeway to do things like feed him and hit the hay for a couple of hours. If MC or HC are required to keep him from going too low, then you really don't have that luxury until he gets to a dose that LC can control.

or, as Jill said, you have the option of running him higher. You'll notice I did that with both Jazzy and KK. I strongly believe in TR giving the best chance of remission, but when I had both of them, physically I just did not have it in me. They both did fine, and both almost went OTJ, though I also think both of them had cancer that helped bring their blood sugar down.

I will try the LC first and retest. Guess last night and the night before I just wanted to get him up and go back to bed. If I am understanding you correctly, once I can control him with just LC, I will have a little more insurance as to what I can expect from him.

Thanks, B and B. I do have the alerts set up. I just didn't find your answer the first time b cause the tech cosmos likes to befuddle me. Marmy's pmps is 105 and she has been in greens all day so we may both be having pj kitty parties tonight. aAND my sister has to be up at 4 for a colonoscopy tomorrow at 7 so I have to all the four kitty meds and testing and feeding and insulin injections a bit early, 5:30 instead of 615 in order to get her to the hospital on time. Isn't there a song about that." get me to the church on time! "So unfortunate that we need sleep!:arghh: Then I teach at the Univ. of DE from 10:30 to 12:30 and home by 1:30 to test Marmy and feed my sister. Should be an interesting series of events!

it's not really that you'll know what to expect from him, just that you'll know that if he drops too low, he can pull himself back up with his normal food.

cats following the Tight Regulation Protocol *should* always be at the point where you know you can trust your dose to be safe. The cat would never be more than about 0.25 units over dose, even if they are almost ready for a reduction, and most cats can handle a 0.25 unit "overdose" with regular food. People who are doing a lot of propping up the numbers with MC or HC food are negating that confidence, to some extent, because you might be standing in the way of the cat earning reductions when they're needed. That can be beneficial for a lot of cats, but if you're removing the cat's ability to self-regulate, then it becomes your responsibility to do all of the regulation.

Because I know a lot of people read your threads, I'll point out that this advice is geared largely toward Bubba. Often once the cat becomes tightly regulated they don't need as many carbs as they used to need because they are fairly even-keel on a good dose. Of course the flip side is that often once a cat becomes tightly regulated, they may start needing reductions pretty quickly. It's a balancing act sometimes.
