the Feline Diabetes Facebook page seems to be saying there is a problem with Fancy Feast. Shaak, who is OTJ, did have a number in the 70's last week, then she dropped back down into the 60's a couple of days later. She is not getting sick and she is still eating all of it.
I am worried I am going to have to change her food. I don't know a lot about the other products except they are expensive. What should I do? I am researching myself, but would love to hear others input just the same.

My Callie is doing well on 9 lives. It is not expensive and she loves it. I but the variety pack with 3 different flavors.

nine lives is not on the list Lisa A Pierson, DVM made. I don't have a clue how to figure out % on my own. FF Chicken feast was only 4% though.

9Lives is included (Page 16) in the data compiled by Lisa Pierson in 2012. Have a look here. Some of our members are currently working on updating this list, as some of the foods on Dr. Pierson's list are no longer available, plus new varieties have been added since 2012 and are not included. Lately, my picky Hannah isn't too enthused with her FF varieties, so I've also been trying to find something else for her. She sort of likes 9Lives Meaty Paté Super Supper, and that's 4.5% carbs. Hope this helps.

I have fed Evo 95% (although I'm not sure they still make it) and Wellness as alternatives to FF. They are both a little more expensive, though. I have also used 9 Lives and Special Kitty (Walmart's brand), which are closer to the price range of the FF. Special Kitty is probably less than ideal as it has a lot of by-products, but it has low-carb varities and is very affordable, and my cats all liked it.

I've started feeding Sheba Pates because they are a bit cheaper than FF (at Walmart anyway). Seems to be fine carb wise.

This is the most important statement.....As long as there's no problem, don't worry about it.

Yes, some of the FF products have changed, but ECID so it may not effect your cat the way it does someone else's.

On your concern about her hitting the 70's when she's usually in the 60's.....again, this isn't anything to worry about...they're both excellent and normal numbers. Remember, there can be up to a 20% variance from the same drop of blood on the same meter.

Also, these are cats we're dealing with....they like to mess with our minds....LOL

@jayla-n-Drevon Colin is the only one I give it to, the others are on Friskies. He hasn't had any trouble with it and so far still likes it.

I think it depends on the cat. Stratus sometimes turns up his nose at FF. Logan, however, at 3 1/2 months, is a little black terror who will eat anything! Neither cat has had any particular issues with FF other than just their usual feline pickiness. (Oh, you just bought six cans of that flavor? Well, I'm going on strike from that one.)

They adore the Purely FF in the trays, but those are just for treats and they are super expensive! We've also been supplementing with Sheba. I like the perfect portion packs (they snap in half) because I can just put a little bit down and not worry that I'm going to be throwing out a whole plateful.

That said, both my cats are civvies and they can eat any of the flavors. Miles didn't have any problems with FF classics, though, or the chunky ones either.

I really hope Purina takes notice of those who are having issues, since it's critical for the sugarcats to have affordable food options. I am also following this on Facebook to see how it plays out.

I've continued to intermittently feed FF Classic Turkey & Giblets Feast and haven't had any issues. Fingers crossed! :nailbiting:

Shaak's latest bg is 72. I think I am just going to have to get used to her running a bit more than 55 from now on. However if that is the only issue we have with the new formula we see with FF then I guess we will accept that. I am interested in switching her to 9 lives but can't find the turkey and giblet flavor I want to have her try. Will keep looking.

Noticed that the formula change has reached Canada on some of the flavors. :( the percentages have changed on the can which in calculation equals to higher carbs. Grrr...

I have got to find a store that has 9 lives Turkey and Giblets. Then just pray 9 lives does not change their formula.

Skittles eats Friskies and he is doing good. But I can tell he is tired of it . He doesn't like 9-lives. I'm feeding 2 cats so it's hard on me to get more expensive food

I switched my guys to Fancy Feast classics and Purina pro plan true nature chicken and liver. However, I've noticed when they eat FF they have runny poops. I've tried twice to reintroduce FF. So, I'm basically feeding only the Purina pro plan C&l food. But i need another option for variety. The have not liked the Purina DM.

Zoey hasn't had problems with Ff before but last night she vomited and had diarrhea after eating Turkey and Giblets. I wonder if that's the culprit!

Mine have been eating the Turkey & Giblets this week and I have not noticed any issues. Though, my cats seem to have stomach's of steel and small food changes don't upset them a lot.

I'll pay attention to it bit more to see if I notice anything.

(I usually buy the variety classic pack so they get a mix... otherwise Gordy rebels on me.)

To the OP, I UNDERSTAND THIS! I am so frustrated, I heard that FF Chicken Feast Classics have gone up in carbs. Now there's a bunch in the closet. I only feed Fluffy the FF Turkey & Giblets classics. Still good, but I'm always on the lookout for food with less carbs. It's a shame those companies don't seem to considerate of diabetic cats.

We are currently working on a food chart update. Unfortunately Purina is not being cooperative, so we don't have any updates on Fancy Feast. Sheba Pates are fine, running @2.7 calories from carbs with a Phos DM level of 1.3

Ok. i opened a new variety pack and the T&G is greyer and my civvie turned her nose up at it. (She never does that.) *scratches head*

How can they say they haven't changed anything, when they clearly did. grrrr.

Is this true for all of the Sheba pates? Or only certain ones? I am looking for a cheap "junk food" wet food that I can give as a treat and/or when Wiley won't eat anything else. I used to feed FF, but now want to steer clear of all Purina products.

Yes according to Sheba, all Pates are the same value. I feed them all to my cat and he seems to react fine. Sheba is made by Mars.

I just used the carb calculator on Sheba Chicken Pate and it came out to 7.5% carbs. Is the carb calculator incorrect? Has anyone tried it on other cat foods?

Not sure what calculator you used, but for the chart, we calculate the % calories from carbs using the As Fed values (not the Guaranteed Analysis that's on the can) and we got 2.7.

Someone had posted an app for a "Cat Food Carb Calculator". I downloaded it and tried it first on Fancy Feast, where it seemed much higher than the food charts I've been using. Maybe it's not correct. I'll try the Sheba Pates because Zoey has been having diarrhea lately, and it may be because they changed the formula for Fancy Feast Classics. Thanks for the information!

Has anyone perchance done a comparison of analysis values on the actual FF can labels (recent versus older cans)? I am interested in whether the fat content might have increased in the latest batches of FF.

Can Someone that understands equations and the like please see what the carb count is on these two foods. No where has the nine lives brands that are on Lisa's list that are low enough carbs, below are the analysis for two foods not on the list, I can't read small print at all anymore, so I had to wait till I got home to look up analysis when I could do it on the computer with bigger letters/numbers. Shaak is supposed to eat in 20 minutes and I am afraid to feed her her last can of FF which she is refusing to eat anyway, plus her BG has jumped to 112.

However, I am scared of what the carb count is on these new nine lives flavors, or at least new to Lisa's list and I can't find them listed.

stressing bad, Shaak has been OTJ since March and I am so worried this is going to knock her out of remission

I went ahead and gave Shaak the nine lives meaty pate with real chicken. She gobbled it right up. however I have no idea what carbs I gave her. I am math illiterate, I have no idea how to get the carb %. Please someone help me with this issue as her being OTJ could be sabotaged.

I am trying to get the calculations. What I come up with is 3% for meaty pate mixed grill and 3.5% for meaty pate with real chicken, but I don't know if I did it right or not??

I am feeding blind so to speak. I picked up some nine lives that were pate. Fed Shaak and hoped for the best, two hours after she ate her BG was 77. I call that a major improvement. In the morning I will check again 2 hours after she eats. I am very hopeful and praying for 9 lives to help solve the FF dilemma.

Below are the 9Lives carbs and data from the new food chart we're working on.
Note- the chart is not sorted by carb count (at this time).
These values are based on actual As Fed values received from 9Lives.
The Mixed Grill has 5.3 carbs and the Real Chicken has 2.6 carbs.
I feed the 9Lives Pates to Derek (and my other cats) with no problems.
I do mix in some water to make it more gravy like... they love it.

I am overjoyed with9lives meaty pate with real chicken being 2.6. I just hate that I just fed her the mixed grill with it being 5.3. I am off to the store right now to buy more MP/real chicken.

I've been buying my 9 lives from Amazon. The12 pack of the pate been selling for under $5 as an add on when you order other products. I am a Prime member, so I don't get charged shipping. I have been doing my Christmas shopping, so everytime I have $25 in products, I buy another 12 pack. So far, I have 6 boxes sitting in my garage. I have most of my Christmas shopping done! Just a few people left.

I bought 60 cans at 3 cans for a dollar. did it at three different stores to get that many cans. adds up to $20 dollars. Much cheaper than FF ever was. I know FF was supposed to be a higher quality food. I so wish I could afford to go with a higher quality brand. I have seen so many on Lisa's list that I would feel better about feeding. We do what we must do for the best for our sugar babies, sometimes our best is not ideal, but we do it the best we can.
