GA 3/2 - Flame went home to be with the Angels tonite

My dear friends,

I can't write much now, but I wanted to let you all know that my sweetest boy just could not fight any more and I had to set him free. He was struggling so badly tonite and I knew it was time. We had a session with the AC and he said he didn't think he could make it until tomorrow, he said he would try, but she sensed that would be too much to ask of him and I knew it in my heart as well just by looking at him. He was so weak, so tired and he was asking for peace.

He transitioned peacefully. It wasn't what I wanted as I'd promised him no more trips to the vet, but sometimes we don't get to choose.

My heart is shattered into a million pieces. Everywhere I look... there is Flame. His meter and strips, his food bowls, a counter full of medications, his bed, his inhalers on the living room table. I miss him so much already. I'm numb right now.

I will write more soon, but not tonite. I need to just be for a while.

THANK YOU ALL for everything! This is truly as special place. People here give so much of themselves to others... it is truly awe inspiring.

I heard about Flame's crossing earlier, but just couldn't bring myself to open your condo or compose a post. It's still hard. This is such an amazing place. Few of us ever get to meet face to face, yet we become brothers and sisters through our common love for our kitties. Each victory is cheered by all, each struggle is supported and encouraged, and each loss is equally mourned. Your love for Flame came through in every word, every picture, every post. We could all feel it, and we grew to love him, too. Tonight we are all bereft, united with you in sadness and loss. We all wish we could take the pain from your soul and make it all better.

We do so much for our kitties throughout their short lives, but the most important thing we can do for them is to give them the ultimate gift - freedom from suffering. It is also the gift that takes the most out of us. Flame trusted you and knew you would give him this gift, despite the cost. There is no greater love.

Fly free, sweet Flamie, on wings that are strong and swift, and land softly at the Bridge, where you can run free and watch over your family until you meet again.

You listened to Flame. As much as it hurt to let him go, you listened with your heart. That is the best any of us can do. A bit of Flame will always be here and this place will always be a home for you.

This morning, I woke up feeling completely lost. I felt like I was walking in circles, thinking I should be doing something right now. We get so used to the routine of caring for our beloved furry family. I suppose it will take me quite a while to get past that. My home and my heart feel empty.
Toward the end, Flame required so much care that I would check on him every few minutes while I was home... how is his breathing, is he coughing, wheezing, is he eating, drinking, peeing, pooping, oh... it's time to test, oh... it's time for medication... I find myself still looking over at his bed to check on him and then get a pit in my stomach when I realize he's not there.

I know, with every fiber of my being, that he was ready and I did the right thing FOR HIM. There is a tiny bit of relief for me in the fact that I am NOT having to check on him every few minutes to make sure he's not struggling, yet I would give ANYTHING just to be able to kiss his sweet face one more time or to hear his purr. Tears come and go today, as I am sure they will for a long time to come.

I am going to donate some of Flame's things to the animal shelter where I volunteer in Flame's memory. When I adopted him 12 years ago, we were at a different shelter, but this is the same group.
I will be posting some things here as well as soon as I am able.

I don't have the words to express how grateful I am for your love and support. Just please know that my heart is overflowing with gratitude and I feel so incredibly blessed and humbled to be a part of this beautiful FDMB family.

Wishing all the kitties and beans a good day with safe surfing and purrs. My prayers go out to all who may need them today.

I didn't know what to do with myself today. I went to the shelter where I volunteer and donated some of Flame's leftover meds and food and treats. I felt such an urgent need to be there today. I needed to be around animals today... I needed to pet and snuggle some kitties and doggies. It did my heart good.

I got to see a sweet 9 month old pup go home with her new family... and what a wiggly, jiggly, kissy faced beauty she is!! We love those happy new beginnings!!

AND... I got to hold 3 brand new 6 day old kittens!! Such tiny little meeps they are. Meet Patrick (white), Kelly and Bridget. They still have their umbilical cords. Our Shelter Director is hand raising them. Sooo beautiful!!

 

How sweet. I'm glad you were able to go to the shelter and get some love from the kitties and doggies. Sending more prayers.

I don't have words that are good enough to comfort you Donna except that you are a wonderful mama bean. I'm sure sweet Flame and his squirrel friend are having a good game of chat and chase. You'll both always have a place in my heart.

 

Thank you so much for always being here for us @Doodles & Karen . You were definitely one of my "lifelines" here and I'll never be able to tell you how much I appreciate that. You and Doodles certainly have a very special place in my heart and always will.

It's funny that you say this. During Flame's passing, my friend and Reiki master was "holding a sacred space" for him and sending Reiki during the process. When we spoke later that night, she told me what she sensed and saw... this is an excerpt from her notes

I then saw one lone squirrel appear. It was as if he was there to get Flame’s attention. This squirrel then refocused Flame’s attention to Hobbes, who was waiting to meet/greet his brother. There was so much brotherly love present. (Hobbes was my civvie who passed 3 years ago in January)

So, the squirrel, his little friend, even came thru to help as he was crossing over!

What a beautiful story about Flame's squirrel pal and Hobbes' and Flame's meeting. I'm so glad your Reiki friend was able to convey what she sensed.
I'm happy, too, that you were able to go to the shelter today and see the young puppy and the tiny kittens who have their whole lives ahead of them. This is all part of Flame's thank-you to you, Donna. He wanted you to share in the hope and love that is ahead for these young animals.

 

Sending hugs and prayers to you in your time of sorrow. It's so hard to see them go.

 

Ella, it is even more special than that. I had said that Flame had an INCREDIBLE impact on me and so many other people during his time here, and the connection to that place (shelter), those people and the direction it took me in is a testament to that.

You see, Flame is wholly responsible for my starting to volunteer with the shelter 12 years ago. I was so grateful that they allowed me to adopt him that I wanted to pay back/pay it forward. Our shelter director reminded me the other day, that if it weren't for Flame, she and I would not have become the close friends we are today (for which I am SO grateful) and I would not have started to volunteer and be instrumental in saving so many other animals' lives.

Flame was truly my teacher and my guide in this life and he inspired me to journey in directions I could not have imagined.
So, it just felt so right yesterday to go back to the place where it all began and spread some of the love in my heart with those sweet souls who are finding the shelter their temporary home.

 

So sorry Donna Flame was (and is) well and truly loved by you, and he knew it

 

Donna.... I have not been on the board much but it is very clear that Flame will forever be remembered and that you are an amazingly unselfish cat mom to give sweet Flame the last gift we can give.....again, I am so very sorry such a deep loss.
