I've been writing to the company and they just sent me the % of calories from carbs in their freeze-dried dinners for cats. I can't release them because it's for personal use only, but I would strongly encourage you to write to them at

    consumers@stellaandchewys.com

and ask for the information if you are using this food. The first email they said no, but I wrote again and kept a very polite tone, but stressed the importance of having this for my cat, and they did send it. So you may need to be persistent, but it is information you should know.

:banghead: Noah LOVES this food and I sort of get the feeling from your message that the carb % is really high. I'm kind of afraid to ask because it was really hard to find food he did like since he won't eat wet food. Some people here had suggested that the carb % was low enough for diabetic cats

It really depends on the flavor your kitty is eating, as the values range. If Noah likes the food, it's worth asking to make sure he's eating one of the good flavors.

The email said, "We ask that nutritional data that we send be used for personal use only and not posted anywhere. If other people need additional information, they’re welcome to reach out to us."

Although I think I can say that I would feel comfortable feeding my diabetic cat the chicken flavor and the rabbit flavor.

But I would still recommend that you write to them to know the actual numbers and make the best decision for your cat.

Are you talking about the freeze-dried or the raw? Because there is NO rabbit freeze-dried food.

The rabbit is the frozen formula. Sorry I forgot to clarify that. Thanks for asking!

Hmmm, guess I'm lucky that my picky kitty only likes the freeze-dried chicken? Haven't yet noticed any impact on BG numbers from that stuff (she's OTJ, so I'd notice!), so there's an anecdotal piece of evidence.

Is there anyone other than me that has a little bit of a problem with a company that doesn't want their nutritional data posted? Just saying....

You are not alone in that. It's pretty shady.

No, you're not alone, I have a problem with it, too. When I have contacted companies for nutritional information (carbs) I always ask them, up front, if they mind if I share the information with my feline diabetes group. No one has ever said No. Some have included a disclaimer that they are not manufacturing the food to be marketed for diabetic cats, but they have always let me share it.

I have only skimmed this thread but why would anyone feed any food made by a company who refuses to allow the free sharing of BASIC information regarding their products? When I spent many months and hundreds of hours compiling my food chart in 2012, this compay ended up on my LIST OF SHAME for wanting me to sign a release stating that I would not share the information with anyone. Why is it that many companies actually put this data right on their website, and freely share it with me for my chart, or anyone else who calls..... but Stella & Chewy's makes people jump through hoops to get the information?

I can understand their fear of outdated information being posted on the web but they could easily remedy that by posting it on their OWN website and then keeping that website current. I would then subsequently update my chart accordingly.

The only reason why S & C is not currently on my DO NOT RECOMMEND list is because they have promised me data within a couple of months from their new formulations. If, at that time, they forbid me to post it, they will immediately go on my DO NOT RECOMMEND list.

There are plenty of other choices of cat food available made by companies that respect a consumer's right to easily and quickly obtain vital (and very basic) information. They are not the only game in town so why give them your $$?

By the way, this is why reproducing my chart to post on any public platform is expressly forbidden since I would have no way of updating someone else's website. People are free (and encouraged) to link to the chart on my site but it cannot be reproduced other than for personal use.

I don't use Stella & Chewey's because they're so sketchy with their information. Primal Freeze-Dried Raw is Syko's new favourite, she has consistently been eating it for months when she usually gets bored of foods fast. I have had good interactions with the company. In case any Stella & Chewey's users want to switch to Primal, this was Primal's reply to one of my emails:

"We provide in-depth product information on each product page of the website, the first of which for felines can be found here. Please keep in mind when reviewing the product pages that, while we do not provide an as-is carb content for the Freeze-dried varieties like we do for the Raw Frozen, because the Freeze-dried and Frozen are made up of the exact same stuff, the nutritional values of the Freeze-dried Formula will dilute down to match that of the Frozen Formula counterpart, so long as the food is rehydrated as directed on the back of the bag b efore serving. Thus, once rehydrated at a rate of 1 tbsp of warm water per nugget (or more! The more moisture in your carnivore‘s diet, the better for them), the Rehydrated Freeze-dried Formulas will contain approximately the same amount of carbohydrates and other nutrients per nugget as their Raw Frozen counterparts."

The carb info is on the top right corner of the site, when you look up the frozen formulas. I mainly feed the FD Turkey, the frozen Feline Turkey is 0.4% carbs according to their site. The other flavours are all also very low in carbs.

My boys are loving Momentum freeze dried-
I stay away from the livers and hearts because I think it may be too rich for Dre but they love the Turkey the best so far which is odd because they don't like anything else that is turkey?

Thank you to others that have suggested other brands. I'm still trying to switch Noah to wet food but he is being really stubborn. I'm not too happy about what Stella and Chewy's is doing and I'm starting to see a trend of BG rise after feeding the freeze-dried duck. I'm using mainly Primal and was only using Stella and Chewy's as snacks, but I think I will avoid this company from now on. Don't know why they would give the info and tell people not to share...

Thank you @Djamila for posting the info! :) I did not contact the company, but tried stopping the food 4 days ago. I used to give it to Noah for his night snack and always had a blue AMPS. Green AMPS since stopping the food. THANK YOU SO MUCH for warning us about the potentially higher carb content! ;)
