Doodles Tribute

When I was lucky enough to adopt Doodles from a foster in Aug. 2007 he was about 3 months old. I was told that he was found abandoned under a bridge in a closed box. The theory is that he was dumped by a breeder because he was less than perfect. DH actually found Doodles for me since DH was going away for bomb training school. DH wasn't a cat person per say The foster said Doodles (they called him Big Boy) was a large kitty so make sure the carrier was big enough. I immediately went to petsmart and bought a large dog crate Being so excited to pick up my sweet boy I actually rear ended a car in front of me merging onto a main road in NJ Fast forward....Doodles and I became best friends immediately for next 9.5 years. My work had me travel quite a bit most of his life and I promised Doodles I'd never leave him and would always come home. He even loved the songs I would sing to him (trust me I can't sing), and all the mommy kisses that were never ending. Doodles also changed DH's life forever with all the Doodle antics...he was one funny, sweet little-big boy.

I miss him so much and the empty feeling in my heart and sole is sometimes unbearable. I even feel guilty for putting jeans on....most of you know Doodles hated me wearing them. So many funny things that Mr. Bossy Pants did. There is no reason to repeat the journey he endured the past 2 years as they are bitter-sweet for me. Just remember his funny loving self and the tough cookie he was.

What a lovely tribute to Mr. Doodles! Such a handsome boy - love those big furry Maine Coon slipper feet! We all know how hard it is to lose a fur kid.

 

Thanks for sharing the videos Karen. What a nice tribute, Doodles was quite a character! I am so very sorry for your loss.

 

Nice collection of memories for ol' Mr. Bossy Pants. He was one Moo chasin, water splashin, Cat TV lovin furball who earned a spot in all our hearts.

He was one lucky cat to have a bean who enjoyed the antics and made sure there were always plenty of toys to enjoy.

Thank you for sharing some of your Doodles memories. The sadness in having Doodles cross the bridge will never be totally gone, but it is good that you are able to remember all the good and funny times you and DH spent with him. Doodles will always live on in your heart.

you totally had me in happy tears... i am sorry you miss him so... i know the feeling all too well... its been 10 years and i would still pay anything for 5 more minutes with Seth... one more cuddle one more purr... anything... Doodles was one of a kind and i pray for the day you no longer feel guilty by putting on jeans but it makes you smile cause it reminds you of him... he will never leave you i am sure his presence will be felt around you...

 

He is absolutely stunning. My heart breaks for you and your Doodle. Until you meet again love and light and head bumps too.

Dear Karen

I just decided to visit L&LL and noticed your post. I am so sorry for your loss. Sending prayers and hugs. What a great story. Doodles the sweet boy was loved so much and lovingly carried for until he was ready. I really appreciate your support. You are very caring and compassionate person. Thank you so much.

We are doing OK. Gus is still with us. He actually seems better. His kidney markers improved. The BG control is a big struggle (allover the place) and he is very finicky eater. I appreciate any day that he seems OK. I have never imagined that he will keep going. He will be soon 18 years old.

Thanks everyone, it was a good project putting this together and can't wait to get the hard copy book. I've been lurking, but also trying to figure out what to do with my days to keep moving. Thank you for sharing Doodles with us and for allowing me to be part of the honored Team Doodles. I will always love the Round 1 video the most but his fishing videos also pull at my heart. We all miss Doodlebug. I know your heart is completely shattered but you did the best for him every step of the way.

I just want to share a poem that always brings me hope because I do believe our babies are free and joyful "somewere" and waiting for the day we are to hold them again


The Ridge

It’s been such a lovely summer, I’ve been napping in the sun.
This morning, other cats and I enjoyed a long long run.
We chased butterflies together. I climbed high into a tree.
And now I think what woke me up was that small bumble bee.

I’ve yawned and stretched, and still I feel that something has begun.
He’s standing there in robes of white, and telling me to come.
I always run to Him you know, when He comes across the bridge
To see if we’re all having fun and if we’ve checked the ridge.

He gives tummy rubs to all of us and pets and cuddles too
I’m glad to see Him every day, when He comes into view.
Each day He takes a different cat, and chats with them a while
Then off that kitty starts to run. I swear they seem to smile.

But now He’s stopped in front of me. He’s said a name I know.
He said to look out towards the ridge. The sun is setting low.
I start to walk out toward the ridge, and then what’s that I see.
IT’S YOU! IT’S YOU! It’s really you. You’ve come to be with me!

My goodness you are running and I am running too!
You stop to bend, but I can jump and now I am with you.
I feel your kisses on my head, as I did in long off days
You’re holding me and hugging me, and into your eyes I gaze.

And now He’s walking with us, as you carry me once more
We’ve crossed the bridge together. We’re here at Heaven’s door.
And He has held it open, and told us to walk through
That from now on and forever, I can always be with you.

I confess, I only made it through the first video. It made me laugh and cry so much I didn't think I could face another. I will have to work my way through them, one day at a time.

You have always amazed me. Your love for and dedication to Doodles was legendary - you pretty much put your life on hold to cater to his every need after he was diagnosed with his heart issues. Yet, you still found time to help others, and support them. You have long been a very valuable member of this Board. I bet many new members could cite you as one of the most helpful and supportive people that have guided them. And yet, through all this, you were dealing with your own stress and heartbreak. Your kindess and generousity shone through every time you posted on someone's condo. Yet, behind that facade, you were worrying, working to keep your beloved Doodles comfor, always knowing the end could be just around the corner. When that corner was finally turned, you once again stepped up and put Doodles' comfort and well being ahead of your own feelings. What a wonderful, loving bean!

The pain you feel now will slowly fade, and in it's place will be a shining reminder of the incredibel connection you had with Doodles. That will never be broken, and he will be watching over you and waiting patiently untill the day you will be reunited.

I know how much you must miss him, almost every minute, and my heart goes out to you. You are lucky to have all the pictures.

Oh, Karen, looking at those pictures and videos, my heart is breaking all over again. Doodles was such a handsome boy and such a character. You can tell how much personality he had and what a sweet, funny boy he was. Thank you so much for sharing him with all of us and for being there for him through all of his health challenges. He was so luck that he had you - he could not have asked for a better bean.

...and thank you for being there for us and for your generosity, your advice and your comforting words - despite everything that you were going through.

I'm having a difficult time typing this because the tears keep coming and words are failing me. There is so much I feel in my heart, yet words seem so inadequate to express what I feel.

Your love for Doodles was /is so deep, it was palpable just from reading your words here. You cared for him with such grace, such courage and despite everything you always made sure he had a wonderful quality of life and had some fun!
Doodles was a very special guy!! Sweetness and attitude all rolled up into one furry, fluffy, gorgeous, loving little soul!! Thank you for sharing him with us. He was much loved and will be missed greatly... but will NEVER be forgotten. Those pictures and videos are absolutely priceless. I loved seeing them and am so grateful you shared them.

No matter the challenges you were facing with Doods, you always made time to be here for all of us. Your kindness and generosity will never be forgotten and will be something for which I will be forever grateful. Sending you much love for your hurting heart. I know the pain all too well.

 

Thank you, Karen. There is so much healing in sharing. You are so very loved here... as was Doodles. That's easy to see. I adore the photos of him. He and my Chase may not be the same breed but so many of Doodles pics remind me of Chase. My heart is heavy for you but I am also grateful that Doodles had someone as wonderful as you to raise him, love him, and care for him. Sending prayers up for your peace.

 

My favorite part was the story of how Doodles came into your life - I laughed at your rear-ender picking him up What a wonderful life filled with love and toys (oh my god, all the toys at your house - it's like kitty disneyland) for this little boy with such an inauspicious beginning (being left in a closed box - really?)

Okay, I'm not a shutterbug person. Do I have to register? I see nothing.

Anyway, I'm glad your DH saw past a "less than perfect" baby. Don't know why breeder thought that. Doodles is perfect. He rocked the lion cut. And you really rear ended someone? I didn't know his beginnings with you. You provided the best kind life for him, never doubt that. Oh how I miss checking on Doodles and Bubba, it was the first thing I did to start my day.

He is certainly adored and loved by all.

Cool place for a wedding! I go there once in a while to see some bands I like. Place somehow survived the eminent domain takeover that gobbled up everything around them for the 3-46 merge makeover.

 

Best bands in NJ. I'll let you know when we're there. Tell Richie, Gail or Greg you're friends with Karen & Dingo next time you're there

 

I highly recommend it. Wish I would have known about it long before. Thanks to Aunt @Marje and Gracie telling us about them it made him very happy

I am still so sad learning about your loss of Doodles. I looked at your photo album and watched all your videos and Karen, he was just so adorable and cute! I can absolutely see why you loved him so dearly. You gave him such a good loving life. And that kitty was so spoiled!!! Please take heart and know that he had the best of everything and you did so well as his mamabean. Our kitties don't live forever unfortunately and I always think how heartbroken I will be when my two sweet ones are no longer with me, but please find peace I knowing that he had such a good life and you both gave such joy and love to each other. As someone mentioned above, put those jeans on and smile every time thinking of your sweet Mr. Bossy pants! Why didn't he like you wearing jeans, by the way?

I laughed too about your story of rear ending another car when you went to go meet your new friend.

I hope Doodles flies free and lands softly and he'll be watching over you as your kitty angel.

Ahhhh... they are smart buggers, aren't they!!!?? I'm so sorry again for your doodles. He was so beautiful. Wish I could just reach through the screen and pet his beautiful furry coat!

Like some of the others, I will have to watch the videos in more than one sitting. It is always hard when one of our family's kitty crosses the Bridge.

I don't know if you've ever read this fable. It was shared with me by a member who hasn't posted in years. It speaks to why we choose tears.

 

Oh Karen, what a beautiful tribute to Mr. Bossy Pants. I know how much you must miss him. I think especially when one of our kitties has health problems, we get even closer to them. I love the pictures of him and like some of the others, I'll need to watch the videos when my eyes are more dry. I have not been able to steel myself to watch the videos yet, I know when I do they will make me cry but also smile, as well. I feel very lucky to have gotten to "know" Doodles, and I will never forget him.

Doodles was such a special little guy - I loved his videos!! Thank you for sharing them! Round 1 was hysterical, and I especially liked the Ripple Rug and Fishing videos. He reminds me of Punkin with his beautiful Maine Coon markings. Doodles was a gorgeous kitter. You did the hardest, most loving thing by letting him go when it was time. It's the worst, but time does make it easier. These special needs kitties are so intertwined in our hearts and such a part of us . . . . it's an extraordinary loss.
