She passed earlier this month at the ripe old age of 17.5. I don't know if there is anyone still in this community who remembers her, we used to be active here from Austria in 2007-2012.

She was happy and healthy and active pretty much all the years of her post-diagnosis life, and I credit this FD support group with much of that success. Many thanks to all who contributed to our ability to care for Carmelita, and to those who are new to FD and wonder how long your cat is going to enjoy life, with proper care, let me just say, your cat can live a FULL, ACTIVE, HAPPY life.

I have put up a post in the Supply Closet, she did leave me holding a good sized bag of supplies.

    /Holly (Carmelita's "mom" / Greg's other half)

Princess Carmelita!!! I remember you well.

When we were new and in the thick of it Greg was always there to respond to a question or concern at 5am US eastern time.
Thanks for posting. I’m glad to hear she lived a long, active, happy princessly life.

I'm so sorry it was time for Carmelita to pass :( Big hugs to you both. I know how hard it is.
I'm glad she lived the great life she did! She was very well loved :cat:

Greg was always around to help in the early mornings, and I loved following his stories of the beautiful Carmelita.
I missed Greg's help a lot and for quite some time, when he stopped posting.

Please tell Greg "Thanks for all his guidance and support" back then, and let him know that J.D. lived to 20 and was a happy diabetic for 9 years.

Have thought of you all often. Thank you for stopping by with the news.
Hugs to you both and scritches for Captain Darling.

Very sorry for your loss of beautiful Carmelita. She reminds me so much of one of my kitties (also a princess!) who died last February. I'm glad you gave Carmelita such a wonderful life.

So sorry for your loss. It's a good story for everyone who thinks their lives (more importantly their cat's lives) are over with a diabetic diagnosis. With good care and day to day management an almost totally normal life is possible.
    Goodbye Carmelita. :bighug:

So sorry for your loss. Obviously, you were the best beans ever - 10 years post diagnosis! That means she was well loved and well cared for. I'm sure you are both feeling the changes in the routine after all this time, not to mention missing her beloved presence. :bighug:

So kind of you to share your supplies with others. Carmelita's legacy will live on. She has her place in the FDMB Hall of Fame sewed up!

Fly free, sweet Carmelita, and land softly.

I remember Princess Carmelita well. I also remember that it was Greg that was there for me in the early mornings when I was a newbie and Gabby was up to her usual antics.

I so so sorry for your loss. Fly free Carmelita and land softly. You are remembered with great fondness and bittersweet smiles.

Hugs to you both and scritches for Captain Darling.

Sorry to say, Captain Darling went on ahead two years ago. He had an inoperable spinal tumor thing that resulted in back leg paralysis, incontinence, and (the worst part) a life really lacking in quality. He wasn't having fun any more. :(

    Hi Greg and Holly,

I remember Carmelita well, and I was always grateful for the help that Greg gave me in the mornings with Bear Man, who died many years ago. I’m so sorry to hear that Carmelita has passed away, but what an inspiring story, and and what an amazing life she lived! That is certainly cause for celebration. Condolences also on the passing of Captain Darling.

It is good to hear an update from all of you. I certainly missed Greg’s presence on the board after he left. It’s sad to know that Carmelita is gone, but I’m so happy to hear that her life was a long and happy one.

Holly and Greg, your girl is "in good paws" with all the GAs at The Bridge. Thank you for reminding all of us here that a full and happy life can be enjoyed by our feline diabetics.

I absolutely remember dear Carmelita!!! In fact I was just thinking of her and Greg the other day and how Greg would post recipes and your menus from time to time.

So sorry to hear it was her time. She is one of the legends of FDMB-LL. There was quite the reception for her at the bridge. Many old timers there to greet her and show her around.

Hugs to you Greg and Holly (aka Mrs Greg). cat_wings>o:bighug:

I didn't realize you've lost two of your family in so short a time. It is devastating. I lost two of my babies this last year.

Your Carmelita is a shining hope for all of us who struggle with this disease.
    May your heart heal.:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
