Well I am back. Malcolm did go into remission but is diabetic again. Went to vet today and diagnossed him. I need to start shots again but he needs to eat but he is still lethargic and uninterested. He has been through a lot today and I asked if he won't eat tonight should I start tomorrow morning instead? Vet said Yes, but what if he is still not wanting to eat? Do I force feed him with syringe and food they gave me? We are both a bit traumatized.

I'm really sorry to hear that your kitty is out of remission. I'm not a vet but I can tell you what mine has done for Boots. She prescribed an appetite stimulant that I give to him when he isn't eating well. I might have to miss one dose of insulin but if I administer the appetite stimulant I can dose him next time. I can also give him the stimulant if he throws up his meal after an insulin dose to prevent his BG from dropping too low. Perhaps your vet could give you something like this to try this morning if Malcolm still won't eat.

I'm sorry Malcolm dropped out of remission, but you know the drill and there may be a chance for remission again. Would you please amend your signature so that we can see what kind of insulin, the dosage, what testing meter you are using, what kind of food, etc:
    cat's name,
    date of Dx (diagnosis)
    insulin, what dosage
    meter
any other pertinent issues like if there are any food issues, history of DKA, hepatic lipidosis, pancreatitis, allergies, IBD, etc.

Also, here is the link to the spreadsheet so you can get that going and track insulin shots, and BG tests: Spreadsheet

You might try making a soup of his favorite wet food, warming it a little, and letting him lick off a spoon to get him interested. We use baby food meat (no seasonings at all) for Idjit when he is not feeling well, I just mix it down to a soup, and it has not failed us yet. If it was Idjit, I would not inject insulin if he isn't eating. Are you testing yet to see what the blood sugar level is? and so that you can monitor when you do start the injections?

Thank you both. I gave him a cat food from the vet which they instructed me to water down a bit and feed with a syringe. I then gave him his first shot. I will update my profile as soon as I get a day off and regroup. He remains lethargic. I'm not sure when it is reasonable to expect to see improvement? I will try the baby food. There is a treat at the pet store it is in a plastic sleeve, and a few days ago I gave him one and he loved it. But that was before I knew he was diabetic again and maybe this treat might not be a good choice? I so want to see him feeling better. Anything I do now just seems to be adding to his discomfort
