Quick back story on my civie Blackie. She is our outside/porch kitty. I’m not an advocate of outdoor cats. However, she used to be the neighbors cat outside cat. They kept the garage door cracked for her and she always was an outside cat. I heat my porch in the winter to overwinter some plants and I do have a cat door for strays. Two winters ago she took up residence in the porch. Wouldn’t you? Heated porch vs cold garage.:cat: Anywho, I’m trying to keep this short. The neighbors moved last fall and left the cat to me. My indoor girl and her do not get along (that’s tale for a different day) so she remains an outside cat and is very happy. Now on to the tick!

Things have been pretty busy for me so it’s been about a week since her last thorough rub down. She has a really dense coat. I didn’t feel this crapper until about 5 minutes into our cuddle time. This is the first tick she’s had since she’s been with me. I’ve removed quite a few ticks from another cat who squared in my porch a few years ago but he never had reaction like this. It’s a deer tick (black legged). The thing wasn’t even engorged. Could she possibly have had one that dropped off and then this nasty buggar took over? It kinda looks like part of a mouth piece is still in there too. I put a warm compress on it and cleaned the area up with witch hazel. It’s not swollen and she didn’t react like she was in horrible pain or discomfort when I removed the tick and cleaned it up. She was actually purring and carrying on like she was getting a spa treatment.

Has anyone seen a reaction to a tick look like this? I’m going to keep a close eye on her. If her own “feline power healing” doesn’t do the trick, I will take her to the vet.

The kicker is, I have been putting Revolution on her all summer. Her last dose was the 21st of September. Reading up on this I did find some sites say revolution doesn’t work on deer ticks. Anyone else hear if this. If this is true, what should I use to keep ticks away?
Sorry I rambled on and I apologize if the photos grossed you out. :cat:

Did you actually remove/see a tick in that location?
Maybe the spot is something besides a tick bite? like a mast-cell tumor.

Where I live in the UK (in a woodland area, close to farmland) ticks are a major problem, way more than fleas are. I can get ticks on my legs just by sitting in the garden to drink a cup of coffee! And a couple of my cats who venture out into the woodland also pick up ticks on a regular basis during the summer (my cats are out in the day and in at night). It's really important - if you're in a tick area - to use an anti-flea med that also treats ticks. Here in the UK 'Frontline' is our best bet, but I don't know what your best anti-tick med is where you are....

Revolution indeed does NOT kill ticks, Frontline Plus is the only one that is labeled as killing deer ticks.

Yes, I pulled it off. It’s head was buried In the middle and the photo of the tick is the actual tick that was in her.

Thanks for the info. The neighbor (not Blackies old caretakers, a different one) gave me the Revolution and some frontline after their cat passed away. So, you think it would be ok to put the frontline on now or should I wait until the Revolution is out of her system?

I wouldn't stack them 2 weeks apart but my vet has said I could do it at 3 weeks when we had a huge flea infestation 2 years ago.
