I'm currently out of town and my pet sitter (who has a cat with diabetes and is on this board somewhere). My cat is normally a healthy eater. Lately, she is being extra picky. I was able to get her to eat Pate before leaving Thursday though. Sitter says she is eating 1 1/2 3oz cans per day. This seems really low compared to what she used to eat.

Of course I'm growing concerned, and debating if I want to have her give her dry kibble. Yes, I all fully aware that this will cause BG to spike, but if this truly isn't eating enough this is my last resort for the time being.

I really don't know if I am over reacting. She said it is my call.

Tina, you could ask the sitter to try warming the canned food a little in the microwave, sometimes that extra aroma is enticing. Or sprinkle a little Parmesan cheese, tuna juice, small pieces of baked or boiled chicken breast (if kitty likes these) on top. Kitty may be missing you and lonely, and this is how she is showing it. I would try these things before I would offer kibble, you are right, that will only raise the BG.

My best guess is kitty misses you. Mine doesn't eat well when I board him and he's scared the boarding place a few times by not eating and not eating. If you're not already doing so, have sitter leave the food out until the next feeding so kitty can pick and nibble... Very possible she'll eat at least a little more than if the food is picked up right away.

My guess is kitty misses me too, but she loves my pet sitter. Also, she was doing this behavior prior to me leaving.
My cat free feeds all day post remission. Food will be left out until she returns in the AM. Hoping there is some improvement.

Sitter knows all the tricks. She has a diabetic kitty herself. She said Gracie would eat the toppings & that was it.
I had her leave out 1/4cup of dry kibble and 1 can of fresh pate.

    AM visit will be interesting.

Your cat knew you were going before you left. She heard you on the phone/Internet, watched you pack, saw you do a b'zillion other things that told him you were leaving, maybe attention was more/less or different...
