First of all, I want to thank everyone on the Forum for being so supportive and for giving Oliver and me a place where we actually feel some hope :)

Working on getting everything in order with switching Oliver's living/eating/meds situation over ..and getting set up here in the forum.

Ive started reading the threads that are pertinent and am working on getting a handle on the depot-and lantus situation in general when it comes to him. Also created my signature with his info and started the spreadsheet.

As far as Oliver goes, we are weaning off of dry food and at this point his main diet is Special Kitty and Friskies pate. I will be getting ketone strips for him and trying to figure out a way to test on those (thinking that with 8 other kitties, testing will involve Ollie being in the bathroom with a dedicated litter box and fish gravel for awhile..im sure we will get a lovely operatic performance as a thank u :D) We are going to solve the food situation permanently by switching everyone mainly to canned ..and by buying a couple of automatic feeders that allow access only to the kitties who will be wearing fobs/have their microchip info entered so that the kitties who are more resistant to can (and yeah, I actually have a couple of can 'dislikers'-because "hate" is such a strong word) will still be able to get some dry to supplement the can

Oliver's sugars have been all over the place .. and truthfully, im anxious about being able to do the right thing. There are so many new variables to treating him -with just starting insulin and changing food, etc.. I want to make sure his sugars dont go super high like they have been (Yesterday morning's reading on the glucometer was simply "HI"), but at the same time on days like today when I should be happy because his blood tested at 121, im worried about skipping the shot and making his numbers go super high again, but also afraid to give him the shot-even with a lower dosage- and have him go super low. I sure hope things even out sooner rather than later.. he has lost so much weight and muscle mass from the diabetes ..and now I kno there is DKA to worry about too if im not doing things right .. o_O

Hi - I'm not as regular poster on the forum as others, but just to say that this is a great place for support and I know you're going to get all the help you need, as I have over the last year.

I've been "mum" to nine kitties too so know how difficult it is with different food regimes! Sounds like you've got some good planning in progress.

My Bob has a very erratic diabetes, so I can understand your concern about too high and too low glucose levels. As I was told right at the beginning managing feline diabetes is a marathon not a sprint - and after a year there are days when I still feel that I haven't left the starting blocks.

The main thing is try not to worry... just post any questions and you'll get all the help you need :bighug:
