Well, we switched Mr. Kitty from Vetsulin to Lantus this morning. I'm home checking his BG every 2 hours. So far his AMPS was lower then +2 and +4, but he came down 5 points at +4, so even though that's a really slow drop, we're moving in the right direction. I'm sure it's normal for BG to fluctuate during the switch. I can't wait to see how he does on Lantus. Please send us some positive thoughts.

With Lantus being a depot insulin, you really cannot see the impact after just one shot, so don't expect much. I hope it works out well for you and Mr. Kitty! You may want to jump over and starting posting on the Lantus forum when it is specific to Lantus.

takes a couple or more days for lantus to start working great. hard to remember now but, i think it was about a week before i saw real improvement with tux and a month before he was under 200 all the time with 1 unit. when it starts working well, check BG at +2 & +4 for a few, just incase your cat is like mine where lantus acts as a fast insulin and makes them go low very early.

I figured it would take a week or so to see progress. Do you think it’s necessary for me to test every 2 hours today or can I just get a +2 and +4 for the next 6 or so cycles then do a curve? He’s giving me the mean mug look as I type, lol :cat:

i love those mean mug looks lol

i wouldn’t test every 2 hours right now, do maybe a +2-3 after injection if possible and a +6 (when your normal cats are suppose to be lowest on Lantus) in daytime for now and next few days to ease your mind. first curve i do believe our specialist had us do that on week 3.
