First of all I just want to Thank the person or people who started this Wonderful website and community at Feline Diabetes. I only joined in January 2019. Before joining, I will admit that I used to browse the forums and read for information on here for over a year before deciding to join myself. You all have helped me understand diabetes for cats in a way that no doctor has ever been able to. You all are some smart, loving, supportive, understanding, and thoughtful people. I can remember staying up at night and some of you going round the clock to sit with me when Lily’s blood sugars were too low. I see many of you do this for others as well! I would not have been able to care for Lily the way I have been without your guidance. People always compliment me on the way I have cared for her. Again it is this community on Feline Diabetes who has helped me do it! Kindness goes a long way…and for strangers nonetheless. I will always be grateful and keep this resource in mind for anyone I ever meet who is looking for help with Feline Diabetes. The disease itself can be expensive to maintain so the fact that this is a free resource to people is so amazing and touching. Continue to do your good work and please don’t ever change how this site is run. Much love to all of you!

I wanted to share with you all what a joy my Lily has been to me all these years. She was 8 years, 8 months old when she passed. Lily was the most Beautiful kitty. I loved her as much as any of my family or friends, if not more. Lily was a feral kitten that was sold from a PetSmart in 2011. My mom actually was the one to pick her out. I was living with my parents back then and my Mom kept telling my Dad and me…“I need to have a kitty in the house!” We already had 2 dogs to take care of that were a lot work. We had other kitties in the past. The last one we had was in 2008 or 2009 and was diagnosed with diabetes. He lived quite a long time. Maybe 14 years? He was a sweet kitty too. Well there was a vote of 2 for no cat and my Mom was the only one who wanted another cat. My mom won! We got a cat!!! This kitten was so energetic, smart, and a little bad. (as are all kitten though, right?) She was long haired with the most gorgeous markings of stripes, bushy tail, and white toes (some with orange splotches). The left side of her face was marked with darker colors of tan, black, grays etc, the right side of her had pretty white, oranges and browns. My Mom decided to name her Lily, as she was tiger-y and breathtaking.

I forgot to mention not only did my Mom get Lily from a Petsmart, but she waited for hours in the day for her. The people at Petsmart were telling my Mom to go home after she finished the paperwork and they would call her later. My Mom was insistent that she would not leave the store until they finished the process. It had not been clear whether my Mom would be the owner. She was worried someone else would take her kitty. After waiting for hours in the store my Mom & Dad got to take home our Lily!

In 2014 I moved out of state and away from my parents. At this time my Mom let me take Lily to be my own kitty. Over the years before moving Lily bonded with me. We became so close. My mom was a nurse and while she was at work I would take care of Lily the most. Lily chose me to be her person! And to think Lily was supposed to be my Mom’s cat! Together Lily and I made the move to be with family out of state. My family did not have any kitties and they were not too excited about having a kitty. They were so welcoming and loving anyways. Lily met them and bonded with my family also. Everyone Lily meets always loves her. She is the sweetest cat and even when she goes to the vet or need medical attention they quickly saw how great she was.

At the end of the year in 2016, Lily started to drink and pee a lot. I recognized this as key signs that a cat might be diabetic. I remembered our other cat who also had the disease. He was a bit older, so I was hopeful that it was a fluke and Lily would not also have diabetes. She was diagnosed in December. I believe she only went on insulin for a week? Maybe 2? Or not even that long? Then for 9 months she was in remission!

Earlier this year my Mom was ill. I had to drive to where my parents live 12 hrs away. They needed help and I brought Lily with me who was also very sick. Lily needed to be hospitalized and one of the last things my Mom and I got to do together was save Lily. Now it has come full circle and I have lost my Mom & Lily. I miss them both every day. I will never love another kitty the way I have loved Lily. I hope that the sadness of missing Lily will get better. Life feels empty without you right now.

Lily was my Best Friend in the whole world. I did not know it was possible to love a pet so dearly. She was there for me through some of the most difficult times in my life. I would just hug her and take naps with her and she would always make everything better. I can’t even count the amount of times I cried and she loved me and listened to me.

Lily you were more than a kitty. You were an Angel to me. You made me so happy. I am very sorry that you lived with such illness. I will never forget all the playful, loving, and precious time we had together. I want to keep your memory with me always. My sweet, beautiful, caring kitty. Mommy loves you forever. May you rest in peace with no sickness anymore. You are reunited back to my Mommy where you belong. cat_wings>o

What a beautiful tribute to your very special Lily. The love between you is obvious.

Such wonderful pictures too. She has a look to her that looks like she had an "old soul" which is probably why she was so comfortable in new places and such a comfort to you.

Fly free sweet Lily and land softly. There are lots of friends to meet you at the Bridge to welcome you, show you the best places to chase butterflies and the softest clouds to nap on. And of course there's your first mommy to watch over both you and your second mommy until the day comes that you're all together again forever. :rb_icon:

What a beautiful, touching, life affirming, yet sadly beautiful story - Lily was so incredibly gorgeous, and the relationship you had with her lives on forever. The photos are a beautiful tribute -- her spirit is with you, and I hope you know what a wonderful mom you have been. Bless you and the two beautiful "girls" who are now angels together. Many hugs:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Thank you for that sweet poem Gill. Thank you all for your condolences.

I really hope I do get to see Lily & my Mom again one day. I know I'll be longing for both of them until we meet again. Death is bittersweet when someone who is sick leaves us. I swear it is never enough time. I feel like if I could just have 1 more day, 1 more week, 1 more month, many more years...I want more time. :(

It is so strange because Lily had pancreatitis and diabetes. She almost died a year ago from pancreatitis and I was given 1 more year with her. My Mom also had diabetes and pancreatitis, she died in February and a year before she died she had a cardiac bypass. She too had 1 more year before her passing. So strange how connected my Lily & my Mom were...

Ti-Mousse you are right Lily did take my heart and soul. She really did. I don't want to ever forget her.

I'm so sad to read this - however it is a beautiful tribute to both your mom and sweet Lily. It's obvious how much you loved them both. Fly free and land softly sweet Lily across the rainbow bridge. She will always be in your heart...filling it with love like no other. That's what our sweet kitties do to us all...we understand your heartbreak. Sending you hugs...cat_wings>ocat_wings>ocat_wings>o
