Ok, so this is going to be a little long because I'm going to give some background.

Leo started walking funny on his hind left leg on Wednesday, I thought he had maybe injured his leg, so took him to the vet on Thursday. The vet thought the way he was walking was how cats walk when they have diabetes and developed neuropathy. They tested him and his blood glucose level was at 377. So they diagnosed him as diabetic and gave him a shot, but I don't know the units. The vet told me to give him 4.5 units of ProZinc x2 daily. Thurs evening I gave him that amount. Friday morning I only gave him 2 units because he only ate about half his food and the vet had told me to cut the dose in half if he only ate part of his meal. Friday night I gave him 2 units. Sat morning I gave him 2. Sat evening I gave him only 1 (because I had talked to people on this forum by then). Now he hasn't been himself since he started the insulin. I think he was in mild hypo. I couldn't tell if he was stumbling because his walking hasn't been great since Tues., but I could tell by just looking at his eyes that he was dazed. So I didn't give him a shot at all this morning. I was finally able to get a testing meter today. I tested him at 6:30 pm central time and his number was 170. I waited 20 minutes and tested him again and his number was 158. I'm not going to give him a shot since he is under 200.

Is it strange that his number is under 200 when I didn't give him a shot this morning?

He is still walking funny. Could it be that the high number on Thursday was a fluke and he really does have some sort of back injury?

I have an appt tomorrow with my dog, so I will talk to the vet about it. But would like to hear what some more experienced diabetes parents think. Thanks!

Could you describe how he walks funny? It's not unusual for BG to be lower even at shot-time, ProZinc is known to last up to 14 hours.

He's down lower on his back paws. Rather than looking like he is up on his toes, he looks more flat footed. It also seems like his back legs are weak. He is a little stumbly and slow. And his back is hunched up. He also sits down really slow. And sometimes doesn't put his butt all the way down on the floor when sitting. He can't jump up in the furniture either.

I could understand it being lower if he had had a shot this morning, but he hadn't had a shot since 5:30 last night. It had been over 24 hrs since his last shot.

Sounds like diabetic neuropathy to me. Here's a video that shows it....and how far they can come back with getting the blood glucose under control and some added B-12

The type of B12 for treating neuropathy is methylcobalamin also called methyl B12. Cyanocobalamin does not work for neuropathy. One brand of Methyl B12 many members use is Zobaline and can be found on Amazon. However it is also important that glucose levels are also under control to treat neuropathy. It will take several weeks before you can see improvement. Depending on how severe it is and how well your cat responds, it is possible to completely reverse the neuropathy symptoms.

Yeah, funny how that works, huh? When I first joined, it was under $20

As the word gets out, the price just goes up and up and up

Well that is how he walks. Thank you for the video. It helped a lot!

I'm still a little confused about his numbers. But I will keep monitoring and see where he is this morning.
