I am trying to follow the TR protocol with Moe, but I’m getting pushback from my vet. She thinks I’m increasing too fast without her involvement (even though she knows I’m a crazy cat-mom super-researcher). I don’t want to cut her out of his treatment because she’s been great with him through so many health issues. I want to get her buy in on this protocol.

I want to send her information on the protocol but I’m mostly finding laypersons descriptions. There’s one link in this forum to a published medical study but I can’t see the details without a subscription.

How did you convince your vet that TR is the best way to go?

I had to create a fake SS for my vet while doing TR. It would be much better off if you could get your vet on board with TR. I eventually switched to an IM vet and he was fine with TR.

Good luck ! I think the key is having her read the link that Lizzie provided and emphasizes how vigilant you will be.

And , if that fails, I love Paul’s suggestion of a fake SS for the vet.

I attached the first paper on the TR protocol. It's the paper I gave my vet and she used it to convert the entire practice to using TR.

There have been a few more papers by the same authors.

Thank you...this is what I was looks for and could only see the abstract. My vet knows how vigilant I am, knows I’m testing a lot and loves the FMDB spreadsheet. This might help convince her. Thanks so much!

What also is nice in the paper above is that it states using a human monitor.

My first vet would not buy it - she didn't want us testing and insisted we use Keto-diastix. It was a constant struggle to get her to accept that I was going to test regardless. Finally, our petsitter suggested we go to the Vet practice where she worked.

We did switch vets, and we provided him the spreadsheet and TR info from the link plus the study documentation to explain what we were going to do - we did that at our first meeting. He really only wanted us to test pre-shot, but after two weeks, he realized it was futile to suggest that ;). He actually loved having all the data. He often recommended dosage changes and I would not follow them, but would follow TR (and I would say that I was sticking with the protocol). He rode with us through the last three months after a failed OTJ trial in Jan, and now after the successful trial we just finished.

Good luck. I did consider making a fake spreadsheet with only the pre-shot numbers, but ultimately decided to give him all the data, if only to show him that we were committed to TR.
