First, am I drawing the correct amount for a .25 dose? The first photo is just a photo of what the lines and what not look like and the second photo is the dose I have been giving him that I believe to be .25.

Second, are there syringes tailored for smaller measurements/more precise measurements? If so, is there conversion needed?

Lastly, can someone take a look at my spreadsheet and tell me what the heck is going on with these numbers? I’m also thrown off at the couple of upper 100s readings I’ve gotten. Perhaps increase by .10? I’d appreciate any suggestions and links of course! I try to lookup and study up as much as I can.

That looks pretty close to me! Do your syringes only have whole unit increments? If so, you can get u40 syringes that have half units which will make it easier. BD makes some, and maybe ulticare as well. Another thing you can do is use u100 syringes BUT you will have to use a conversion. Here is info on how to do that if you are interested

    I cur
I am using U40 syringes currently. Was wondering if there was something that measured even smaller because those lines are all 1 unit marks. Thank you for the link, I’ll have a look at that. I’m just unaware what marks the u100 has.

Yes, there are u40 syringes that come marked with half units on them :cat: So it would be easier to estimate 0.25 by doing half of the 0.5 mark. The two brands I listed above come with 0.5 marks

OH! Okay! The ones I’m using are actually Ulticare. I’ll have to do some digging to see what I can find. Thank you so much!

No problem! Hopefully with your new title you will get some more dosing advice, but I think per the Prozinc dosing protocol you should hold the 0.25 dose for a total of 7 days (assuming you are following start low go slow).

"Hold the dose for at least a week:
    • Unless your cat won’t eat or you suspect hypoglycemia
    • Unless your kitty falls below 90 mg/dL (5 mmol/L). If kitty falls below 90 mg/dL (5 mmol/L) decrease the dose by 0.25 unit immediately."
It can sometimes take a little while for a newly diagnosed kitty's number to settle down, so Tigger may be doing a little bouncing around right now. Let's see what others have to say :cat:

Haha yes I hope so! I forgot to actually edit the title as I was in the middle of cooking when I just put something there while I wrote out the post :joyful:

Thank you for your help, I honestly don’t know how I’d be doing this without this site.

I am confused. The second image shows that a little less than 4 units are being drawn up. If you have a U40 syringe that would be a little less than 4 units of insulin. If it is a U100 syringe that would be about 1.5 units of a U40 insulin like ProZinc.

I am using a U40 syringe. It’s total volume is 40 units. The 5 mark is 5 units therefore each line equals one unit. The first line I come to is basically the “zero” mark as I’m not able to draw anything below that. Therefore, a sliver above that zero mark tells me it’s .25.

I'm thinking the same thing as Sarah&Soph - he could be bouncing off those blues.

You can read up about bouncing in the Prozinc Forum Sticky: GENERAL INFORMATION AND IMPORTANT LINKS—PLEASE READ
