Hi friends! I've been super swamped with work so I haven't been able to log on as much as I'd like, but I wanted to see if anyone had some input on Jonas's crazily inconsistent numbers/reaction to insulin since his hypo event on Saturday. It is making me insane and super on edge! The smallest bit of insulin seems to impact him a lot faster and stronger now. He had been given 4U while in the reds and he stayed in the reds for most of the cycle as recently as a few weeks ago. We'd been getting into a more consistent spot until the hypo happened.

And now?? I'm lost! He's been dropping 100ish points at his +2 hour mark which never happened before when he was at a higher level of insulin. I set an alarm last night to check on him and it hadn't dropped much more (he went from 470 PMPS to 361 +2 and 354 +6) but usually he doesn't really budge at his +2. And then this morning, he was at a sky-high 507 so I increased him to 1.25U and he was down to 298 at +6 when I went home on lunch to check him.

I'm planning a curve on Saturday since I'll be home so I can hopefully make better sense of his numbers, but I'd appreciate any insight anyone might have. It's more than a bit nervewracking because I used to give him his usual 3-4U without thinking and now as much as 1U is causing significant changes. I really felt like we were getting the steps of his sugar dance memorized until his hypo happened... gosh I am still kicking myself.

But the good news: he is his happy, active, alert self with a great appetite, his usual playfulness, good potty routines, and no increase of ketones despite his lower dosage/higher numbers.

Uhhmmmm stop kicking yourself! It is what it is... Nothing was done with intent. It sounds to me like the old vial had some kind of problem. (that was you right?) THIS can happen to the best. I think you just have to get use to the new routine. (Almost like starting over) I'm no insulin expert so the ones that are, will guide you.

I just wanted to say Its going to be ok. Just ask Jonas..He'll tell ya. ;):coffee::p

Thank you, Jeanne <3 you are always so positive and uplifting, it means the world to me and I know to so many other members as well. Yep, that was us, at least I think! The effectiveness seemed to go way up with the new vial and led to his hypo :( I’m hoping a Saturday curve will give more insight but this definitely does feel like going back to step 0 in terms of dosage! I’m so scared of him getting low again. (He definitely thinks I’m worrying over nothing but is happy to get his ear poked as long as he gets purebites for it!)

I think now that the sensitivity from the hypo wore off you can get that dose back up. If it were my cat I’d get that dose back up to 2.5-3. See what others think.

I know you dropped to 1 u following the hypo... in curious why you lowered it further.

I'm just nervous about how much he seems to be reacting to smaller doses now, especially since I'm at work and can't test him consistently. He's had 3-4U before that hasn't dropped him as much as 1U has in the past few days and I can't for the life of me figure out what's going on. I'm hoping a curve Saturday will help shed more insight because this has me lost.

Oh, and the days where he got .5U and .75U it was because he didn't eat much. There was one morning where he just licked at his breakfast and jumped down which is super unlike him. I think he was super overloaded by how much he ate during his hypo and he had a bit of upset tummy. He ate like normal again this morning though :)

Would you be willing to try 2 units for a few days?
