As most of you know, Bee was diagnosed with diabetes in April. I learned to test her and its still not easy to do so but i also started to test her Mom, Pie (14-15 years old). She always test high (20+ in the morning) . She was really sick early this morning, there was a lot of vomit and took a while for her to eat...got a 29.8 for BG. I have an appointment with a vet in 3 days but i wonder if i should give her a shot of insulin ? I give her baby shot (1.5) since the first time i tested her 2 months or so ago, but maybe i hurt her :/ The vet assistant i talked to while booking an appointment didnt know if i should give her an insulin shot or not (she couldnt give this kind of advice, she could be in trouble). 29 is really high, do i give her insulin or not?

    Thank you

I would not. Some cats run higher naturally and while 29 is very high I'd want a fructosamine done first to confirm. She could have an infection going on elevating her numbers.

Sorry I don't quite understand this sentence, you gave Pie a shot of 1.5u two months ago? Or?

Thanks. No, i've been giving her 1.5 unit for the last 2 months, daily. I know, it was maybe stupid.

Oh, okay I misunderstood. I didn't realize you have been giving her insulin as well. In that case that question is probably above my paygrade. Was Pie diagnosed with diabetes?

Panic! I did give her a small dose of insuline everyday and tested her BG. till i could have enough money to bring her to the vet (spent 2k for Bee, left me dry on $). So no, Pie is not diagnosed...she will see the vet in 3 days. i gave Pie 1.5 and it was prolly a mistake but no money, no vet

I would be extremely wary of giving insulin to a kitty who hasn't been diagnosed - some cats have been lost to hypoglycemia because a vet mistook high BG from an infection for diabetes. You've been doing this for over a month now so I'm not sure what the best plan of action is. Have you only tested Pie for pre-shots?

Tagging some people who might have better insight on this since you still have a few days before the vet visit. What's the purpose of the visit, vomiting and not wanting to eat?

Do you have a spreadsheet for Pie?
