    Morning!
I heard from the vet clinic yesterday, and I was glad, given how low he went yesterday after midnight.
I know people have been successful micro-dosing, and that it can be done, but he's gone so low on me so many times I am glad to have his vets know what is going on.

The vet I spoke to yesterday suggested we stop the insulin for a couple days and monitor his BG levels, and only give insulin if he goes over 216.
She said maybe his body is trying to revert to a non-diabetic state, and said this gives his pancreas a chance to work if he does not have the support of the insulin.
I now understand more clearly that's why the FDMB suggests withholding insulin and food for a while and rechecking BG levels when your preshot value is iffy.

This morning he is at 171.
He barfed several times yesterday, but ate, but he doesn't seem to have any appetite this morning.
I'm hoping that's mostly because of what happened yesterday morning, and that he will pick up today.
He certainly was full of P and V on Monday evening. The roller coaster...

Lastly - the vet suggested oral glyburide might be an option... I searched here for posts on this topic and I do not see a lot, nor do I see a lot of positive experiences.
Does anyone have any input on glyburide?

No on glyburide. It makes the pancreas work harder and is’t a good idea if remission is a goal.

Did you ever measure your previous dose to see how many drops in it?

I hope Toeby feels better today and will eat for you soon. My girl is on one drop. I just push in the plunger, put the syringe in the insulin cartridge and let go. It consistently gives me one drop of insulin. :bighug::bighug:

Thanks re: the glyburide. I had messed around with some cranberry juice before you mentioned it, when I was showing my husband how little he was getting. I used a piece of paper towel to show him the drops but a mirror or piece of glass would probably be best to show the size of them. I'll have to go back to school on it. Just on way home from Petsmart... found Dr. Elsey's there. No Fortiflora.

We have had the odd cat, and I mean like two in the time I've been here, go on the "a drop when needed" dose. Let's see what his numbers do the next day or two.

Good luck with the new food.

The dry will just be for a treat after being tested, or maybe to put a few kernels on top of his canned - I'm not going to feed it to him as a meal, no worries there.
He liked it, but I think he likes any dry food.
It's got to be the flavourings the producers add.
I was curious because there seems to be quite a bit of mention of this Dr. Elsey's along with the Young Again brand on the Facebook group.
And yah, I know what curiousity did to the cat...

I know he'll likely end up back on insulin, but I have no problem in monitoring him for a couple days and talk to this vet again on Friday.
At least she didn't maintain the same line as the first vet, that a cat won't hypo on a half unit b.i.d., because obviously he can.

You can get it from Chewy, Amazon and about 100 other online pet supplies places

Laura is in Canada. Chewy doesn't deliver across the border. It might be more like 10's of online pet supply places here.

I got fortiflora from my vet clinic, I don’t believe they have it in pet stores (or at least here they don’t) I’m in Ontario. Back when Kitten was first diagnosed I had to add it to the dry diabetic food because she refused to eat it.. Well she quickly learned she could just gum up the fortiflora without having to actually eat the food! Little bugger. Hopefully it works for you because cats do love that stuff!!

Yeah, some vets carry it but it's already pretty pricey...with the vet's usually marking things up, it's even higher

Oh my, just tried to post a reply with pictures and it didn't work out too well...
These cats have always been fussy, and I have always given them probiotics since the day I brought them home, which they often lick off and then move on.
I am just trying to find a way to get Toeby to eat a little more because he is losing weight, which I know from experience could be from a more nefarious reason than diabetes.
Anyway, we drove the hour into Halifax today to see if some what some of the bigger chains had for food and supplements... locally we have Pet Valu and ShurGain so today we hit Ren's Pets again and Petsmart. I missed Global Pet Foods... another day I guess. Likely the vets down here carry the Fortiflora if it is sold here at all.

I wanted to add a couple pictures that show how these critters keep you guessing... got home and he and his brother were crammed onto one window seat, which is odd these days.
Supper time, the only way Toeby would eat for me was if I put his dish of Blue Wilderness (which he seems to like) up on his other window seat, on his own.
    They always keep you guessing.

That's a lot of kitty on one window perch!!

Hey, if our kitties want their food "with a view", that's what they get, right?...LOL

China would only eat if I spoon fed her, so I feel your pain. If I just dumped it in the bowl she wouldn't touch it. I had to sit there and feed one spoonful at a time.
