Fed her Food with Gravy 13% carbs 15 minutes later she was 54 gave her more food 20 minutes later she is at 67 gave her treats, over the food 20 minutes later she is at 78. No Ketones. What do I do now? How high does she need to be? Thank you I am in California, it's almost midnight. She got her insulin at 7PM. Don't want to forget to ask what to do regarding insulin in am. I believe this happened because she hasn't been eating much.

Reduce her dose to 1.25 units in the morning. Above 50 is safe on a human meter. Don't give her any more carbs. You want to see her rising without influence of carbs. Sorry I can't stay on any longer.

Hi, I am up tonight. I don’t know how I can help but wanted to see how you and Dolly are doing now! :) I know it gets so quiet on the boards when it is night in the US. Sounds like you did great steering her away from a hypo, hope she is surfing safely on low carb now.

Thanks so much. Dolly has been a real problem with food. She was at the vet all day yesterday, I left food with her and told them only pate. They never fed her all day. I wrote it down on the notes and over the phone, she’s diabetic, needs to eat. I am furious with her vet and myself, she did not have enough food in her for insulin. Sorry. I could go on forever, she was at the vet because she has not been eating. She’s been going there 7 years.

Why do they think she’s not eating? Maybe time for a second opinion?

She has chronic sinusitis, can’t smell her food. They were going to do a nasal flush. They did not. Bottom line, when I gave her that little bit of Friskies turkey shreds in gravy she gobbled it up, haven’t seen her eat like that in awhile. I’ve tried so many foods and the FortiFlora on top has been the game changer. That hasn’t been working the last week. Fishy foods, tuna juice, Mirtazapine stopped working. She’s not doing great this morning. I just got and gave cyproheptadine for congestion and appetite stimulant this morning. Her vet is cats only. Everything has changed since COVID-19. Sorry for going on, exhausted. Thanks for checking in.

My takeaway is she doesn’t like any of the foods I’ve tried anymore, seeing her eat that gravy shows me it’s not just a smell, it’s a taste and I a

I am so sorry for bothering you but Dolly just went up to 337 @+1.5. Is this normal following a hypo night? Too soon for insulin to start working? I read so much on the Lantus forum but absorbing all the info, remembering all I’ve read....... :(

Definitely bouncing. The Lantus hasn’t kicked in yet. Get a +3 but I think you can likely stop testing until tonight after that. Bounces can take up to 6 cycles to clear.

Sorry Dolly isn’t feeling well :( It sounds like she bounced from the low. I copied this from The Basics Sticky:
Bouncing - Bouncing is simply a natural reaction to what the cat's system perceives as a BG value that is "too low". "Too low" is relative. If a cat is used to BGs in the 200's, 300's, or higher for a long time, then even a BG that drops to 150 can trigger a "bounce". Bouncing can also be triggered if the blood glucose drops too low and/or too fast. The pancreas, then the liver, release glucogon, glycogen and counter-regulatory hormones. The end result is a dumping of "sugar" into the bloodstream to save the cat from going hypoglycemic from a perceived low. The action is often referred to as "liver panic" or "panicky liver". *Usually*, a bounce will clear kitty's system within 3 days (6 cycles).

Hope your baby starts feeling better soon! :bighug:

I’d change your title to reflect what’s happening now. Better yet start a new condo for today. On this board it’s a new condo each day you pist and no more than one per day. You change the title as needed.
