4/4/2022. CALI AMPS 316, +2.5 205, +6 211, +9.75 314, PMPS 371
Increased dose by 0.25 to 1.5 units LANTUS due to last 7 days NADIR was over 200 majority of days [and over 300 on several cycles]
Cali is now considered a long term diabetic [delayed diagnosis October, 2020 during COVID shutdown].
She consistently has big dives from AMPS to +2. I know this can’t be good for her liver panic. However the BGs are continuously higher than renal threshold which is NOT good for her kidneys.

Hi Carla

To link your previous post, you just paste the link of your post in the message body. This is the link:

Btw, why was her dose reduced from 1.5U to 1U on 3/21? She did not earn a reduction per TR (or SLGS).

I see that you are switching to Levemir from tomorrow. When switching from Lantus to Levemir we start at 70% of the Lantus dose because some cats have a strong initial reaction. I would start at 1U which is 70% of 1.5U (her last good dose).

Tagging @tiffmaxee and @Wendy&Neko for dose confirmation.

The onset and nadir of Levemir is later than Lantus. You want to get a few tests in both cycles to understand Cali's behaviour on Levemir. Many cats go lower at night and I don't see any tests in many PM cycles. TR requires at least 2 tests per cycle. So at least one before-bed test every day would be good!

Thanks Bhooma will do more PM tests. With Cali it still takes both my husband and I to test and always have to microwave the rice socks. I will start Levemir at 1 unit 4/5 AM. I have tried to read, study and diligently prepare for this switch.
Where do you get these links: http…. I am on Apple iPad. Have searched everywhere and tried repeatedly. Probably would have bit me if it were a snake!
Can’t remember at the moment why reduction to 1 unit on 3/21. Have to go back to my handwritten scribbles and see. Will update

Bhooma, PM+2, 259. I think that is why I was reducing back to lower dose, otherwise those steep dives @+2 regardless of food was causing continuous bounces and liver dumps of glucose. I feed small amount after each test regardless. I do have my MC and HC ready if needed. Do you think the Levemir will smooth those steep drops somewhat?

Dosing is based on nadirs I.e. how low a dose takes the cat. The way to reduce bouncing is to get them used to lower numbers. You also want to feed to reduce diving at onset.

Reducing the dose to prevent dives will only leave them in high and flat numbers.

I am curious how the depots interact upon the switch from Lantus to Levemir. Is there a compound effect?

Yes I guess Cali has demonstrated she is the poster child for that.

what would be the next best test for her tonight?

Now 3.25 hours since her shot. After her +2 drop, she typically surfs until +6 Nadir, then rises slowly until +10. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a blue.
