I need some help and my vet is not responding to my emails for assistance.

Howie is currently getting .6mL of Cabergoline daily. It is 100mcg/mL. He weighs 12.9 lbs. I was recently gifted with a donation of cabergoline from someone whose acro kittie passed away, which was such a generous gift to share. However, it came in capsules (not liquid like I currently have) and was compounded at 60mcg/capsule. I’m horrible at math and so can’t figure out the calculation of how much of this donated Cabergoline I should give Howie. Can anyone assist since my vet isn’t responding? I also don’t know if this just gets crushed up in his food? I doubt I could get this to a pharmacy to put into liquid form since the prescription was donated to me. Or any thoughts/recommendations? We all know how expensive cabergoline is and I want to use it in this angel kittie’s honor.

    Thank you so much!

12.9 lbs = 5.86 kg. Cabergoline is dosed at 10mcg/kg of cat which makes Howie's dose 59 mcg. Looks like your vet has rounded up the dose to 60 mcg of cabergoline total. Which is exactly what is in the capsules you received, how lucky is that! You give a full capsule. And thanks so much to your generous donor too.

I have no idea whether cabergoline is bitter, meaning it'd be detected in his food. Can you pill him?

Oh Wendy! You are the best! Thank you for doing math with/for me!
As for the capsules, I have no idea about the bitter factor which makes me nervous(why else would they put it in chicken or bacon marshmallow flavored liquid?!)
Does anyone else get and give it in pill form? These are pretty big capsules (not cerenia sized) so I don’t know that I could pill him very easily.

Math degree in my back pocket. ;)

Can you not ask the donor how he/she gave the capsules? I think I've heard of others getting in it capsules, but don't remember who. Maybe change the subject heading to add "cabergoline in capsules?"

I did send a message to them as well but not sure how active they are on here since their kittie passed away. Thanks for the recommendation!

You can always try mixing one capsule w/food and see if Howie will eat it.. If he doesn't then you only wasted one capsule sand the food.
