Good morning!
She slept on my bed last night :) She is still limping but less than yesterday. i am doing the Bupe every 8 hours again, I think I moved it to 9-10 hours too soon. I have to ask for more, they put it in pre-dosed syringes, is that the way for it? It would be easier to have a vial but that might not be allowed since it's a narcotic?
No poop yesterday. I hope it all gets back to normal. I have to take her to her litter box and she will pee. She would probably go eventually but does not yet, so I keep doing it.

Thank you! Yes, I was very happy to find here on my bed.
I have a question for those who take Buprenorphine: how do you get it? My vet said she does not have it in stock, the hospital tis not sure CVS has it. I will call CVS but I was wondering how people do in general.
Thank you!

My answer in Canada will be somewhat different for you. It is also considered a controlled substance here. But yes, I used to get a chicken flavoured vial of buprenorphine from the compounding pharmacy. The vet uses a special prescription book for those drugs, meaning they have to file a copy with the authorities too. It was waaaaaaay cheaper that way than those prefilled syringes. Not all vets here have the special prescription books, so not all offer the service. Here buprenorphine is sometimes used as a drug for those with narcotic addictions, as a stepping stone to getting off the harder drugs. Not all pharmacies may carry narcotics. I was going to a compounding pharmacy anyway for the flavour. It's been a while so I can't remember who, but I have seen FDMB members in the US get vials.

Thank you, @Wendy&Neko . I called my vet but she cannot get it now, she said she will probably later on, so hopefully we can do that. CVS said no, they have Subutex, the injectable form, for humans. I hope I can find vials somewhere. I mean in a pharmacy, not on the streets

Maybe try posting on the Feline Health forum for places to get bupe vials in the US. Or do some searching in this forum. I do remember someone naming their source at one point, but since it was US, it didn't stick.

I will try, thank you!
Also, my vet said that it was typically not given long term and that we would need to find another pain med if she needed it for longer than a few days, but it looks like a few cats on here take it regularly? I'll talk to her about it again. I wonder if she might be saying that because she might not have the authorization to prescribe it. She's a home vet, not sure if that makes a difference!

Neko took it for almost two years. She had severe arthritis due to her acromegaly. It was a game changer for her. Before hand she was lying down a lot and not interacting much. After she started playing and hanging out with us more. There are very few pain meds that cats can actually take.
