Hey everyone - looking for a Diabetic Cat sitter downtown Toronto for Sept. 2 thru Sept. 10th.
Pootch was in remission until this past weekend & now a previously planned out of town vacation hangs in the balance.
Does anyone know of of have a trusted cat sitter who can do BG's & insulin twice daily? I would prefer to keep Pootch at home & have someone visit.
    Any leads are appreciated :)
    Tx!

where are you located in Toronto? There are a handful of people close to you that could help - I am right downtown.
I am sure others will speak up as well.

A few more things may be good to know -
    What insulin and dose
    Any other meds, conditions
    Time of shots.

If someone local can help, they may not be able to give shots at the time on your schedule, for example, I give my 2 cats shots at 6pm and then there pain meds at 8-9pm.
If it's someone whose cat is OTJ, then there may be no conflict.

Good point - What is involved!?
    Pootch gets 1.5 units Lantus am/pm @ 7:00.
Obviously, this time can be switched up or down over the next week or so depending on the helper's schedule.
No other meds & I have a neighbor coming in for food & litter cleaning.
    :)

Well, I could help you for the shots if you don't get any other offers.
My cats' doses are 25u and 16u, so I would have had trouble giving a dose of .1u LOL.
Their shots are at 6am/pm so I'd be able to get from my place to yours in time for 7am/pm shots.

WOW - that's amazing Gayle! Obviously, I can return the favor anytime.
Ok - let's wait & see how many offers flood in over the next day or two ;)

Sure, lots of time to wait.
In the meantime, you could put together some notes for your petsitters. Ronnie/Luna was petsitting for Cow recently and I stopped in one nite to feed the kitties, no shot as Cow was on gum trial, and Sheri had compiled an amazing binder of notes for each kitty on cautions, likes, feeding, etc. Also, emergency numbers for the vet and persons to call if problems. Not only would it reassure your sitters, but it would also give you good peace of mind in your absence, even if just for a day.

Yes, I took care of Pootch's shots from the 2nd to this morning, then he's off to the vet's and elsewhere.

    Hi all,
I just moved to Toronto (near King and Roncesvalles) and am delighted to see that there is a bit of a feline diabetes network. I have two cats and one (Hemmingway) is a diabetic. Hemmingway gets Lantus on a 12 hour interval.
I was formerly living in Ottawa and had an extremely difficult time finding reliable cat care when I was away. I have no trips currently planned (will likely go home to NB for Christmas) but it is nice to see that arrangements are being made between diabetic cat owners. I would certainly be willing to care for a cat while you are on vacation, etc... Is there a forum specifically for Toronto feline diabetes?
Please do let me know if there are people willing to pet care share or suggestions on excellent cat sitters with experience.
    Thanks soo much,
    Krista & Hemmingway.

There isn't a specific "forum" for Toronto-based members. We have a few people here who are using Lantus or Lev who are in Toronto. You might want to try posting on either Health or, even better, on the Community board.

I'd also suggest that if you do have a question like this, start a new post. Looking at the subject line on this thread, chances are the post will be ignored since the date has passed.
