    Hello!

I just gave Thumper her first dose of Lev. We finally got the order today in the mail! Her SS is up to date but I think I need to update her profile. We started on Pro Zinc in April 2011 then switched to Lantus in Dec. 2011 since we were getting no where on Pro Zinc. She has done better on Lantus but continued to bounce constantly, so here we are. I'm hoping this will help with the bounce! Wouldn't you know she's started to give me some decent #'s lately on Lantus! I have been dosing 1.5 Units of Lantus but was thinking about dropping back since she's been too low to shoot several times lately. I thought about dropping back to .5 starting Lev but decided to go with 1 unit.

Welcome to Lev, Barbara and Thumper!

Get some spot checks during these first 2-3 cycles of lev. If 1u is too much it will probably show up during that time with a sudden low, or bounces will start. Otherwise, just let this settle and collect data.

Good luck! I hope she likes lev.

Thanks for the welcome. Well, we're not starting out great

    PMPS - 310
    +2 - 439

Laura, I was hoping tomorrow but she tells me he's not expected till 10 or 11 tomorrow night! I sure hope he gets along well with Buddy. For those of you that don't know, my daughter recently adopted Buddy from DCIN & now she's adopting Laura's foster Dillon. She also is fostering Miss Kitty for DCIN who is giving her a hard time about eating. She was a dry food addict & neither of us have dealt with that before. Laura, I have hopes the Stella & Chewy's will interest her. So far we haven't found it locally.

    Barbara,

I'll be watching your progress with Levimir because I am really thinking of switching Pumbaa from Lantus as well, as he keeps bouncing and diving like crazy.

Good luck to you with Thumper!

Give it time. If she has been "wanting" to bounce on lantus and you just gave her a new insulin at 2/3 the dose her rebound response is overpowering the insulin. I bet she will stop bouncing and give you better numbers in a less than a week.

I think FDMB and DCIN is getting more people together than facebook! Not to mention cats

Ahhh yes, the frustrating part of switching insulins. It's like starting all over again. Hang in there. ;-)

Tomorrow night sounds about right given the distance he has to travel. Dillon is going to be stressed from the trip, and the change in homes for the 3rd time in 2 months. He's going to need time to himself to relax and unwind and trust that he's not gong to be sent away again. But when he does, I'm confident he'll be right at home. Re: the food, I e-mailed Jennifer the link to where I buy my food from Amazon.com as it's less expensive than buying locally. She'd said that one or two specialty pet stores could order it for her and I encouraged her to do so right away as the bag I sent along with only has 2 days worth of food left. My online order hasn't arrived yet and I didn't know Dillon was leaving until Friday morning so there was no time between work, his vet visit and departure to run out to the store 2 towns over to buy a bag to send along. I sent along 5 cans of Friskies Special Diet Beef & Chicken as that's the last wet food he'd eat but now he'll pick at it. He won't touch Fancy Feast at all.

    (Sorry for the thread hijack!)

Jen did order some from Amazon but I don't think it's going to be here till Wed or Thurs so I was hoping I could find a bag locally. It's funny he won't touch FF, the only FF her foster Miss Kitty will eat is the gravy lovers. I've lost track of how many different kinds of food she has tried. I think the HC food is the only reason she's still needing insulin at all.

I'll start a new thread for a Thumper update.
