Yesterday http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=76693 was a red day (thanks to beans fur shot) followed by an evening slight from high pink down to who knows where.

    8/8 Recap
    AMPS 408
    PMPS 392 +3 317

Nice little surprise this morning with that 142. She had woken us up early with meowing, so I suspect Neko had gone a bit lower and was telling us she needed food. So of course, I couldn't feed her! I waffled about the dose, it was supposed to be 1/2 dose, but a bubble in the syringe told me to go to 4.0 instead. I figured she would be back in the hotel by nadir and CSU could monitor while she was there.

As usual, Neko was an angel at CSU and we are now DONE with SRT. I've promised her no more vetty for a while. Neko seems to be feeling pretty good, has had a snuggle on DH's lap and is now finishing off the last of late breakfast. Ron (DH) and I had a good long talk with both Dr. Timian and Dr. Griffin (radiation oncologist). We got a tour of the SRT machine and an in depth look at their images and planning system. To the software techies that was fascinating. Ron had his iPad there, and it has a sound recording app. I was busy writing notes, but hopefully the iPad captured more. Dr. Griffin said that Neko's tumor was actually petite, not that it makes any difference except for maybe the amount of tissue that will have to be dealt with when the tumor cells die off. I'm going to try to write up my visit if any one is interested in my notes.

We leave Fort Collins tomorrow, barring any issues with Neko today. We are currently booking hotels enroute home. The beans day at Fort Collins consisted of visiting a couple of breweries for a present for the pet sitter, a visit to Petco, just to see what it was like and pick up some pee pads for the way home, as well as check out what food they have. I haven't seen the Merck Before Grain at home.

    From last night:
@Melanie - treatment is finally over!! Neko is getting better over time and at least she has been in the same hotel for several days now.

@Lu - Neko seems to go up at CSU then down after she gets home. I have yet to test again today but that blue this morning was quite the surprise. We are leaving tomorrow, Neko seems quite good now, just tired.

@Michelle - just as your requested, a nice normal uneventful day today. Yeah!

@Jane - I hope that some of what I say may help someone sometime, whether they have a acrocat or just want to travel with a cat.

Neko is hiding now, but it's under the footstool and easy to get to. I think she is just looking for a quiet place to rest.

I forgot to mention, but Neko's tumor measured .162 cc or 5.3 mm x 7.4 mm x 5.5 mm so we are talking fairly small sizes.

@Libby - I was very happy to see the blue. We are off to Olive Garden and then a quiet night in the hotel with Neko.

@Ann - the tour was really interesting, we took lots of pictures. I am sure Neko was docile the entire time.

@Amy - we are taking a slightly different route home, and a tiny bit shorter but still pretty country. At least the beans are looking forward to the views.

@Pip - still TBD what we see at PMPS with the brekkie around nadir, but she has been surprising me.

@Sienne - thanks, our hotels on the way have wi-fi so I'll keep up the daily posts.

@Liz - thanks for the thoughts. It's nice to know LL is sending good vibes for the trip.

oh YAY! for neko and for you and DH! you must be so ready to get home and have life get back to normal!

that's fantastic news that the tumor was smallish - all the less pressure in her head and on her optic nerves. perhaps she won't have headaches from it. kudos to you for having taken care of it so quickly. i waffled on it for 3 months, i think, before we got it done. all it does is grow in the meantime, so wahoo that you got on it!

what a nice morning surprise she gave you, too. i'll be thinking of you guys as you hit the road. lucky you on the Olive Garden - that's just about my most favorite restaurant. i don't remember seeing one there.

i think it was Barb/Checkers posted after your comment on punkin's condo and said that Onliar or whatever that new painkiller is, is also not for cats with any kidney compromise. thanks for the tip about the bladder infection - i know they took a sample and think they were going to check it.

have a wonderful night's sleep tonight and a great time driving home tomorrow. i'll be interested in whatever you write up about the experience. there's always something new to learn. thanks for sharing!

Oh well, to be expected with a part dose, stress of the day, and bounce from wherever she went last night. Neko is now on the bed watching movies with us.

@Barb - we are all SO happy the treatment is over!

@Ella and Rusty - thanks for the travel vines. Neko's been OK for the short trips this week but I'm not sure how she'll handle the long days again.

@Julie - the decision to get going on SRT was really helped by hearing from all cats and beans who have gone before. It's a great support group. BTW, the Olive Garden was on South College Way, along with the large pet stores, REI, Harbor Freight, and a great quilt shop, all on the way to CSU.

i don't remember the streets, but i went to one quilt shop in the old downtown. it was very modern-quilting-focused. seems like we did see the big petstores though. oh well, i'm not going back! there is an olive garden 45 miles north and south of us, so i just have to drive to get to it.

i will resist asking if it was good or what you ordered . . .

Big deep breath..... now exhale.... and relax! She's gotten through the procedure, now the ball is in Neko's court to respond. And she will, in her own sweet time!

Once we got through the Monday, the remainder of the week was much less stressful. The overwhelming thought that we came out here cuz a blood test said we MIGHT have a tumor, to seeing it on the monitor and knowing that it is IN FACT, acromegaly! That was huge for me. Otherwise, the trip might have just been a leap of faith. But knowing that you've taken the bull by the horns, and done what you can... it's a good feeling!

Safe travels and cooperative weather for your trip home. We'll be watching for your updates!

Nice numbers today Neko, but did you really have to go that high tonight?

I'll be interested in seeing your write up as well, i'm sure Lu and i probably missed a ton of information that you and DH might have picked up on.

Hope you had some good eats at Olive Garden and have a nice restful evening. :D

+3 333, coming down, but not too fast.

@Julie - we went to the same modern quilt shop too. No Olive Garden near home, but probably one closer than 1400 miles. Seafood Alfredo, yum!

@Lu - the Tuesday was a bit stressful because Neko acted a little strange in the hotel room after, but once she acted normally after day 3 I did have a big sigh of relief. And you are so right, the rest is up to her now.

@Tracy - Neko is just her normal bouncy self tonight on too little insulin this AM, but seems to be recovering. I'll start writing things on the trip back while my mind is fresh, just hope I can read my scribbles.

@Marje - I keep telling Neko what excellent work she is doing. She is purring back in agreement. I too am glad we got to see a bit of the town.
