@Wendy&Neko and for who was fallowing Micio's post surgery previous posts (https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/thr...osed-with-acromegaly-where-do-i-start.259383/ ):
Dr. called yesterday saying no cancerous cells were found but he thinks that infection/abcess may return and wants to start Micio on CLAVAMOX 62.5Mg twice a day asap; Micio has been on 7 days Zeniquin and just now Dr. "realized" it wasn't the right antibiotic choice?! and told me I can give Mico both antiobiotics in the same time, it won't hurt...REALLY? Started with Clavamox this morning and dropping Zeniquin (only 2 pills left anyway) and will increase probiotics ... any other or better suggestions?

I am just really surprised that, for a dental infection that Clindamycin was not the antibiotic prescribed. It is the drug of choice for all things dental. It is easier on the stomach too. Of course, Clavamox is very good, but if he ends up not being able to tolerate it (vomiting, diarrhea) ask about Clindamycin (Antirobe.)

Oh, and I almost forgot the most important part…. Hooray for no cancer cells! You must be sooo relieved. I am very happy.

When we took Micio to the ER for infection the first time on 17 December 2021 the Dr. gave me Clindamycin but he did not react well at all; the next day we had to take him back again and another Dr. gave him a Convenia shot (luckily no visible side effects, I didn't know any better on that). Meanwhile, we made an appointment with a specialist (board certified dentist) but, between then and the actual surgery on 11 February, Micio had another infection/absess relapse and it was bad and was prescribed Zeniquin...surgery went ok, we continued with Zeniquin till yesterday when the dentist called with the biopsy results and told me to add/switch to Clavamox. as better "suits" for the kind of bacteria present
Seems to me a whole trial of meds and don't understand it...
Very cincerned about Micio's GI tracts though

Well, you could ask for a copy of the pathology report and it probably would make more sense. If your baby had a bad reaction to Clindamycin then that explains the use of Clavamox. It’s a highly effective antibiotic for susceptible organisms, but some cats will react negatively to it. I have a lot of cats, and about 50 percent of them can’t handle Clavamox. Some sail through a course of Clavamox with no problems and continue eating very well.

And you are increasing probiotics; that’s a good move.

Going to request a copy of the biopsy results, forgot to do that yesterday...I was so happy with the news but Dr. seemed very worried about the infection happening again and not quite sure what to think of that neither other than hope for the best.
    Thanks for reminding me

I would also ask the vet what lead to "Dr. "realized" it wasn't the right antibiotic choice?! "? Was a culture and antibiotic susceptibility test performed?

I don't believe anything else beside biopsy was done, he just sounded preoccupied of the infection coming back and, despite the tooth extraction (the rooth was rotten/mushy he said) and removing a bit extra tissue, he's afraid there may be some left over resisting bacteria and that's why he wanted to add/switch ove Clavamox

Fantastic news on the biopsy results! I sure hope you can prevent that thing from returning again. The doc who gave you the results, was that the dental specialist?

Were you giving probiotics before when he had Clindamycin? Speaking from both my own and Neko's experience, it can be hard on the GI track.

Yes, have been giving probiotics and prebiotics to my cats for long time, in every meal.
I just gave him the first dose (62.5mg)of Clavamox this morning and he seems kinda of wobbly and slow, is that one of the side effects?
I did take his BGs just to make sure and they were 105@ +4.75, going to feed him shortly ...hopefully he won't get sick from it

How long after giving the Clav did you think he appeared wobbly/slow? Vomiting and diarrhea are the most common side effects.

I gave him first dose at 6am after his meal, then he goes to sleep/lay down 'till about 10:30-11am and that's when he gets up as he gets hungry again and while walking down his 3 steps stairs he kinda slipped and fall almost like if he had no equilibrium (he had that when taking pain meds). He's fine though, just slower. If he's nauseous can't really tell cause he's always hungry and didn't notice any slobber or meat loaf position type...
He just eat a big meal and resting now...so far, no vomit, we'll see about his bowel movement

Oh poor boy, I just hate this for him! I can’t wait until this is all behind him. I am really thrilled about the biopsy results still!
