Panzer went to the vet today, we found a new one & he seems really knowledgeable & caring. He said something about a fructoseamean test & that's when I pulled up his spreadsheet. He was very impressed with it & he was able to see his labs that I have on there. He still has a UTI & is now taking Clavamox 125mg tablets 1 every 12hrs & he goes back to the vet on March 11th. The vet was talking about taking him off insulin once he's over this UTI, I just nodded my head. He said as long as he can stay under 200 he's good. I've been on here long enough to know when & if that time comes his numbers need to be in the normal range for 2wks. I didn't want to overload him to much on how much I've learned from all the awesome people who have helped me with Panzer on here. Panzer's # was pretty high @PMPS but that's to be expected when he goes to the vet. Panzer found a little chocolate cake in my purse that I forgot about while I was in the shower. He ate a corner of the piece of cake:p little brat, I think between that & him getting my baked ziti & bread & butter last night, that most likely contributes to his # hopefully we get him straightened out with the Clavamox. I have to cut it in half & give Panzer 2 pill pockets which of course he loves. :bighug: The vet said distilled water is what I should give the cats to drink? I haven't researched it yet but have any of you ever heard that? He doesn't drink a whole lot of water, but he did get a big long drink after his +8AMPS feeding & that is when I gave him his first dose of the Clavamox. His next dose will be at +8 PMPS feeding. https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...1-acting-off-85-3-5-98-8.259827/#post-2918449

Chocolate is not good for cats, so keep an eye on him. He could get vomiting and diarrhoea. Sheba ate the top half a chocolate cup cake once and the icing, and got vomiting and diarrhoea about 4 hours later. Was it very chocolatey? It can also cause heart arrhythmias if he ate a lot.

He didn't eat much but he just had the loosest stool he's ever had, I guess you could call it diarrhea. Not sure if it's from the cake or the Clavamox? @Bron and Sheba (GA)

It would take a day or so for the Clavamox to give him diarrhea. I think it would be too soon. Might be from the cake. It's amazing to me whenever I read about cats eating human food. Mine won't touch it!

He hasn't had human food given to him since 2018 & that was by my ex but I guess once they have it they don't give up trying to get it. The only human food that I allow him is the chicken that I boil for his treats. He's like a cat dog toddler all wrapped in one, he drives me crazy. Hopefully that was the only episode he will have & the cake will get out of his system.

How's it going today with Panzer? I didn't see a new thread but stopped by on the board specifically to check in on Panzer? I turn my back for a few minutes and what? what's this about him getting into cake? Hope he's doing okay this morning.

Okay, I got confused because this thread says Feb 25, but it's Feb 26. I already commented on yesterday's condo, I believe, but I logged on to the Board today specifically with the main purpose of checking up on Panzer. Tell me how he's doing today?

He's doing okay. He just had diarrhea, but it's not as much as yesterday. I'm hoping it's just the cake & not the clavamox. If it is the antibiotic, what should we try next?

If it gets bad (and he’s cleared the people food out) then ask the vet for alternatives. They could try straight Amoxicillin, but it may not be as effective. Alternatives would be things like Baytril and Veraflox but those are fluoroquinalone antibiotics and are in the same class as Zeniquin which did not work for his UTI. But the vet should be able to make the call as to alternatives and what may be subtle differences in these antibiotics.

What if he prescribes something that is a no no? What do I need to stay away from? I told him about Metacam being pulled in other countries & I guess he looked after I told him & he said it has been pulled the US too & thanked me for letting him know.

I thought you said that you gave Metacam to Panzer after his dental surgery? Or was that Onsior that was prescribed? Trying to remember.

I understood that Metacam is still available in the U.S. It does carry a black box warning, I believe, that goes back ten years or more, warning of kidney failure in cats. If it’s actually been banned in the U.S., I haven’t heard about it yet.

It was Metacam, I argued with the vet about giving it to him. They wouldn't give me anything else so I gave it to him for 3 of 10 days that they prescribed. Onsior is what the vet gave him with the Zeniquin, but I didn't give him any once I read & heard about it. It's in the Panzer cabinet :cat:

Did you ever figure out the D-mannose dosage? I just saw on another group that it’s 1/4 tsp. Twice a day mixed into food is fine but it should be eaten within 15 minutes or it will acquire a bitter taste. Sounds like something good for a Tiki Stik squeeze up treat or similar.

Yeah I saw that he just got his 2nd dose for the day, he had one more diarrhea after the one this morning. Hopefully now that I have his medicine schedule written down & giving D Mannose 2xs a day, Clavamox 2xs a day it will help. He's still getting his zobaline 1x a day but no mirilax. When Spook & Ellie get there mirilax that's one of his times that he gets D Mannose. He's only getting the probiotic one time a day unless I can mix it with the D Mannose? I really don't want to leave out the zobaline, his body is used to it or does it matter?

If it has a taste he likes it because he finishes his food. I've been putting an extra tablespoon of water in all food to help keep him hydrated.
